Fukushima updates - September 27 , 2013 ..... More lies from Tepco and the Government of Japan - anyone counting on these two parties to save Japan are delusional !

More Government and Tepco  lies , more Tepco foibles and screw ups  .....

Reactor5&6 pump up 6,000 tones of seawater per hour from Fukushima port to discharge to outside of the port

On 9/26/2013, Tepco announced reactor5 and 6 pump up 6,000 tones of seawater from the plant port per hour. The water is used to cool down the reactors, and it’s discharged to the outside of the plant port.
In the presentation to IOC, Japanese prime minister Abe stated the contaminated water is completely blocked in Fukushima nuclear plant port, but it turned out to be false.
(cf, JP PM Abe to IOC “Contaminated water is completely blocked”→Tepco “Tritium can’t be blocked” [URL])
From Tepco’s own report published this August, it was 7,000 m3/hour instead of 6,000 tones/hour.

Seawater fence for reactor5&6 cut off due to high waves / Tepco “No radiation leakage”

Following up this article.. Seawater fence for reactor5&6 cut off / Can’t fix it due to the high waves for the Typhoon [URL]

In the press conference of 9/26/2013, Tepco commented they assume the seawater fence was cut off due to the high waves affected by the Typhoon.
It revealed the vulnerability of the Fukushima port facilities.
On 9/27/2013, Tepco reported the radiation levels (Cs-134/137, All β) are in the past measurement range, no radiation leakage is observed.

Tepco not to investigate nor take countermeasures for reactor3 “steam” anymore

Following up this article.. Tepco “Can’t disclose atmosphere contamination data because the crane is malfunctioning” [URL]

On 9/26/2013, Tepco announced they abandoned investigating the “steam” from reactor3 anymore. They were assuming it may be the evaporated rainwater or PCV gas, but the reason is not identified yet.
Tepco commented the dust sampling data around the “steam” doesn’t show the significant increase of radiation level. They won’t investigate the origin of the “steam” nor take any countermeasures anymore.

400,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclide detected in the coastal area of reactor2 / Second highest record

According to Tepco, they measured 400,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclides (including Strontium-90) from the groundwater in the coastal area of reactor2.
Tepco has been building the impervious wall to surround this area, where is between reactor2 turbine building and the sea, in order to stop contaminated water leaking to the sea.
Because the groundwater started overflowing, Tepco is pumping up the groundwater and send it back to the turbine building.

This is the second highest reading in this area. The sampling boring was near reactor2 turbine building, where may be directly leaking the retained coolant water.

Fukushima worker will decrease by 23% from this October

According to decommissioning state of progress report by Tepco published on 9/26/2013, the total Fukushima workers per day will be 2,400 from this October. This is 23% less than 3,100 of this August or September.
In the press conference of 9/25/2013, Tepco commented the contaminated water is increasing faster than they build new tanks.
(cf, Tepco “Tank construction can’t catch up with increasing contaminated water” / “Trying to think of the solution” [URL])
It was not announced if they decreased the number of the workers intentionally or they couldn’t collect sufficient number of the workers.

44.9 Tbq Contamination Released to Sea & Air In Last 2 Years At Fukushima Daiichi

44.9 Tbq Contamination Released to Sea & Air In Last 2 Years At Fukushima Daiichi
The ongoing releases at Fukushima Daiichi are beginning to add up. Between September 2011 and September 2013 roughly 44.9 terabecquerels of radioactive contamination were released to the sea and the air from Fukushima Daiichi. This may be an underestimate since these numbers do not include all types isotopes or types of radiation. This does not include the initial releases from … Read entire article »

Fukushima Clean Up Effort May Be Futile, People Being Forced To Return.

Fukushima Clean Up Effort May Be Futile, People Being Forced To Return.
More people are beginning to question the efforts to decontaminate areas in Fukushima. With a price tag that could reach $600 billion USD and results that have been less that a success this could all end up being money wasted. Many areas will see reduced radiation levels but not down to the target levels. Some become recontaminated due to … Read entire article »

Fukushima & TEPCO Become Political Football

Fukushima & TEPCO Become Political Football
In a recent interview with a DPJ politician involved with the early response to the Fukushima disaster he stressed that TEPCO should be forced into bankruptcy or fully nationalized as the government has been forced to take over more of the disaster response. He also pointed out that TEPCO had promised to implement an underground wall around the reactors in 2011 … Read entire article »

South Korea Expands Japanese Food Ban To 50 Products

South Korea has expanded their ban of food from northeast Japan to 50 products. They are also urging consumers to check the origin labels on processed foods. Green leafy vegetables were added to the list on top of fish from the region that was banned recently. Government and consumer groups have made increased warnings to consumers in South Korea. One group cited that 7 tons of Fukushima fish were imported to their country in the span of one week in August. … Read entire article »

Radioactive Contamination Still Found In Drinking Water Across Japan

Radioactive Contamination Still Found In Drinking Water Across Japan
This NRA report from June of 2013 found cesium 134 and cesium 137 still showing in city drinking water across a number of regions of mainland Japan. This includes Tokyo. The reading for Tokyo for cesium 137 was higher than the reading for Fukushima City Fukushima. The highest reading was found in Ibaraki for cesium 137. While these amounts are … Read entire article »
