EU-Turkey Deal A Sham.....

Must read thread here - EU - Turkey Deal is not an EU deal !

In Mar'16, EU European Council issued a press release: "EU & Turkey today decided to end the irregular migration from Turkey to the EU" 2/

This "EU-Turkey statement" claimed all asylum-seekers arriving in Greek islands wd be returned to Turkey. It turns out this was false. 3/

3 asylum-seekers took a case to the Court of Justice of EU vs the European Council, arguing EU-Turkey deal was illegal 4/

The European Council didn't defend the deal. It said "we didn't make it - the Heads of Member State Govts did!" 5/

European Council didn't press release its disclaimer of the "Not-the-EU-Turkey deal." It stayed quiet - for the 10 months of the cases 6/

But today the EU Court accepted the European Council's denial of responsibility. The Turkey deal is nothing to do with the EU. 7/

For a year, EU institutions pretended the "deal" release abt Turkey had EU authority. See from 3 weeks ago: 8/

EU officials have used their authority to press Greek officials to refuse 1300 asylum claims of Syrians because of the Turkey deal 9/

Today's ruling shows how courts can force politicians & officials to confront and admit their dishonest strategies. 10/

To rebuild confidence, EU institutions should begin with a public apology for misleading the European public and asylum-seekers 11/

Greek Govt must reopen all asylum cases dismissed on basis of the claim of an "EU-Turkey deal", which in truth has no EU authority 12/

Last month the EU Ombudsman called on European Commission to examine human rights compliance under the "deal" 13/

Did the tell the that EU institutions were telling the Court they had no responsibility for Turkey "deal"? 14/
