US employment report: I'm not impressed. This was not an impressive report, but does the market care, seems to be the immediate question. Total job gains, with upward revisions to November non-farm payrolls (now +353k vs. +321k reported for +32k gain) in addition to a small beat on the December payrolls change to +253k looks okay, but consider a desperately bad Average Hourly Earnings change of -0.2% MoM and +1.7% YoY after +2.1% for the latter in November (revised down to 1.9%) encourages the view that the Fed may sit on its hands for a while. Fed funds futures rallying on this.
