ISIS and AL Qaeda teaming up to target West ? France first , UK and US next ? Hard to believe based upon past rivalries - but maybe that's what the Groups wanted people to believe ?

The two groups have been at odds for months but their war of words intensified in December. In a coordinated offensive three Al Qaeda franchises (Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Al Nusra front) published on their media sites attacks on the legitimacy of the Islamic States Caliphate. AQIM published the longest (96 pages), most detailed and specific assault. AQAP published a criticism of the Caliphate that suggested all pledges of loyalty to it must be null and void because it is illegitimate. Interestingly Al Qaeda's core leadership in Pakistan did not comment perhaps refusing to deign to even discuss Caliph Ibrahim.
Islamic State responded late in December in the latest issue of its on line English language magazine Dabiq. It had an article entitled "Al Qaeda of Waziristan: A Testimony From Within” which was sharply critical of Al Qaeda and Mullah Omar's Taliban. Al Qaeda was accused of moving too slowly to create a caliphate and Mullah Omar for considering negotiations with the Crusader enemy. Dabiq even indirectly criticized Osama bin Laden for not being eager for a caliphate, crossing a red line in jihadists’ literature.

Yet , did the two groups work together on Charlie Hebdo ? And what were they working on actually , what is the nature of last week's events ?

Doubts raised over authenticity of Charlie Hebdo footage.: via

According to analysts, it appears that the footage was recorded over two takes, evidenced by a placement marker that appears by the front left wheel of the vehicle as the gunmen return from apparently gunning down a wounded Gendarme.
The killing of the french policeman is also being called into question, due to the ‘lack of blood spatter consistent with that of a close range shooting’.
As shown in the freeze frame below, smoke is shown to emit from the weapon, with no impact or trauma appearing to register on the body of the victim. The decision of many news outlets to blur out the victim is being debated as evidence of complicity in what many are now calling a hoax.
Forensic and ballistics expert David Mayhew commented; “If the video shows events as they actually occurred, then in my opinion it is most likely that the firearm shown is discharging blanks rather than conventional ammunition”.

Yemen or ISIS: Much Still Uncertain About Paris Attackers

Brothers Were Both in Yemen for Training

by Jason Ditz, January 11, 2015
The gunmen at French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the Kouachi brothers, claimed allegiance to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and the latest reports say both traveled to Yemen in 2011 and trained with AQAP in the Maarib Province.
At the same time the third gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, who attacked the kosher grocery store, insisted he was working with them, and videos show him pledging loyalty to ISIS.
This has sparked a lot of speculation that AQAP and ISIS may be working together, but this may be a hasty conclusion, as there remains an awful lot unclear about the attackers as a whole.
One thing that remains unclear is whether Coulibaly was working with the Kouachi brothers in the first place. He certainly says he was, but we really only have his work on it.
US Attorney General Eric Holder conceded as much, saying there is no “credible information” about who is actually responsible for the attack, and the possibility that Coulibaly was simply a copycat after the brothers’ attack can’t really be ruled out.

OPINION: writes on the connecting of the dots on Paris and Yemen

It may be that Jan. 7, 2015, should be remembered as the day Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) struck not only Paris but also Yemen in a coordinated attack.
The Islamic extremist attack in Paris, with the massacre at Charlie Hebdo and the subsequent deadly hostage dramas, and the lethal violence on the Yemeni police academy in Saana, are linked.
The implication is that AQAP is now fully occupied with attacking the distal and proximal enemy simultaneously. This fact is a powerful message to all jihadists and their opponents.

From the Winter 2014 issue of AQAP’s Inspire, a Muslim prays next to a pressure cooker, above an image of a French passport.
The source, who demanded anonymity because the group had not yet released an official statement, also told The Intercept that two images in thelatest issue of its publication, Inspire, published in December, contained a clue foreshadowing the attack on Charlie Hebdo. One image (at right, click to enlarge) shows a Muslim kneeling in prayer with a cooking pot similar to the one used by the Boston marathon bombers. “If you have the knowledge and inspiration all that’s left is to take action.” On the page immediately below it is a picture of a French passport. Throughout the day, several AQAP members have been praising the attack on social media and discussion sites. An AQAP source pointed The Intercept to a recording they claim is Cherif Kouachi, one of the suspects, acknowledging that his trips to Yemen in 2011 were “financed” by U.S.-born radical imam Anwar al Awlaki and that he was sent to Yemen by AQAP.

France Warns 'Terror Cells' Have Been Activated, US Issues Worldwide Travel Alert

***

French law enforcement officers have been told to erase their social media presence and to carry their weapons at all times because terror sleeper cells have been activated over the last 24 hours in the country, a French police source who attended a briefing Saturday told CNN Terror Analyst Samuel Laurent.

Ahmedy Coulibaly, a suspect killed Friday during a deadly Kosher market hostage siege, had made several phone calls about targeting police officers in France.

The alert came as the lone remaining suspect wanted in connection with a terrorism spree -- Hayat Boumeddiene -- entered Turkey on January 2, a Turkish prime ministry source told CNN Saturday.

Turkish police have tracked her movements, according to the source

Boumeddiene is believed to have left for Turkey "of course to reach Syria" at the beginning of the year, according to a French source close to the nation's security services.

If accurate, it could mean Boumeddiene was not in France at the time of Thursday's deadly shooting of a policewoman in Paris, as authorities originally believed. Authorities offered no immediate explanation of the discrepancy but have said she is wanted in connection with a terrorist attack.

A flurry of developments Saturday included claims linking one of the Charlie Hebdo attackers with the so-called underwear bomber, who sought to bring down a plane over Detroit in 2009.

The connection has not been confirmed by officials, and French investigators are still trying to piece together the web of connections between three suspects killed Friday as two sieges came to a bloody end.
