Submitted by Tyler Durden on 06/25/2012 13:17 -0400
At this point even those who have never heard of the Gulf of Tonkin know where this is headed:
- SYRIAN ACT 'WON'T GO UNPUNISHED,' TURKEY'S ARINC SAYS
- SYRIAN ACT 'HOSTILE,' 'COLD-BLOODED,' ARINC SAYS
- SYRIA SHOT DOWN TURKISH JET WITHOUT WARNING, NULAND SAYS
- TURKEY INVOKED ARTICLES 4 & 5 FOR NATO MEETING, ARINC SAYS
- TURKEY TO PROCEED AGAINST SYRIA USING LEGAL RIGHTS, ARINC SAYS
- TURKISH JET SHOT DOWN IN INTERNATIONAL AIRSPACE, ARINC SAYS
And yet:- TURKISH JET 'MISTAKENLY' ENTERED SYRIAN AIRSPACE, ARINC SAYS
- TURKISH JET WAS IN SYRIAN AIRSPACE ONLY 5 MINUTES, ARINC SAYS
Just the tip, eh?And finally this, which makes it all too clear what Hillary Clinton's endgame here is:- Turkish deputy PM says Syria has also fired on a Turkish search-and-rescue plane -AP
And from Reuters:Turkey said on Monday that Syrian forces had fired at a second Turkish plane which was searching for an F-4 reconnaissance jet shot down by Syria last week, but the second plane was not brought down.Deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc told a news conference that Turkey would protect itself, within the framework of international law, against what it called Syria's "hostile action" of downing its warplane last week.He said at the end of a seven-hour cabinet meeting on the incident that Syria's downing of the reconnaissance jet would not go unpunished. Was that jet over Syrian airspace for "only 5 minutes" too?

NATO in Syria: Will Turkish Plane Become the New Excuse?
Turkey Calls for NATO Article 4 Meeting
by Jason Ditz, June 24, 2012
The loss of a Turkish F-4 warplane over the Mediterranean, off the coast of Syria, on Friday has set the stage for a high-profile NATO meeting to decide exactly what the military alliance will do to Syria in retaliation.
The details of the shoot down aside, the meeting gives the alliance what many of its members have been seeking, an opportunity to argue a plausible reason for a military invasion of Syria and a NATO-imposed regime change.
Turkey is calling the alliance together on the basis of Article 4 of the NATO treaty, which provides for meetings “after a member is attacked.” This seems the loosest sense of the word since Turkey has admitted to violating Syrian airspace and Syria insists it didn’t know what the plane speeding toward its coast was.
Turkey did not elect to try to use Article 5, which would be a much more serious incident, because it would be even harder to claim that the apparently inadvertent downing of a single military aircraft after a territorial violation constituted a serious threat to Turkey’s territorial integrity.
The facts of the incident are likely to be extremely secondary, however, as nations like Britain and France, which have made no bones about seeking NATO regime change in Syria, look to spin the incident as proof they need to start a war.

Turkey's state-run news agency says 33 more members of the Syrian military have defected to Turkey with their families at a time of heightened tensions between the two countries over Syria's downing of a Turkish plane.
Anadolu said on Monday that the group, which includes a general and two colonels, crossed into Turkey overnight and that they were being hosted at a refugee camp near the border.
The defection brought to 13 the number of generals seeking refuge in Turkey since the revolt against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime erupted 16 months ago.
Thousands of soldiers have abandoned the army, but most are low-level conscripts.
The Free Syria Army, the loosely linked group of rebel forces, is made up largely of defectors.
Turkey, once a close ally of Syria, summoned an emergency NATO meeting for Tuesday after accusing Damascus of shooting down one of its military planes in international airspace.
The Dutch foreign minister on Monday said that the European Union will condemn Syria's downing of a Turkish jet, but will not support military intervention in the troubled country.
"What happened is to be considered very seriously [but] we do not go for any interventions," Uri Rosenthal said.
Fresh sanctions
The EU is to add another Syrian official and six firms and government institutions to its sanctions list, EU spokesman Maja Kocijanci said on Monday.
The list already includes more than 120 individuals and nearly 50 entities.
The asset freeze and travel ban were the 16th round of restrictive EU measures imposed on the Assad government.
No details were immediately available on the identities of those targeted.
The sanctions also include a specific ban on insuring items embargoed for delivery to Syria, including arms shipments.
The measure follows an incident last week involving a British-insured Russian cargo ship carrying attack helicopters for Syria.
The US alerted the UK to the consignment and British security services told insurers Standard Club that providing insurance for the shipment would breach EU sanctions, reports said.

The CIA-MI6-Mossad Brotherhood Trick Egypt With Muslim Trojan Horse
Saman Mohammadi
Infowars.com Monday, June 25, 2012
Stuxnet and Flame are not the only viruses that have been created by the U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies. The Muslim Brotherhood is perhaps Washington’s most successful and dangerous virus that it has injected into the veins of the Middle East. It is an intellectual virus that destroys critical thinking among Muslims, excites their animal passions, and makes them act against their own interests.
With this virus firmly embedded in Egypt’s social and political life, Washington has guaranteed its position in the region for years to come. But by no means does the Muslim Brotherhood have anything close to a majority of popular support in Egypt. Since half the country didn’t vote in the election, the new president Mohammed Morsi only has the backing of “26% of the full electorate.”
|
Whatever course Morsi decides to take Egypt in the coming months, it is already clear that his government will resemble a gang even more than the one currently in power. The only difference is that Washington wanted the Muslim Brotherhood on top in Egypt, so it won.
What does Morsi’s win in Egypt mean for relations between the Western world and the Islamic world? I don’t know. But say goodbye to the Arab Spring, and say hello to the Islamist Summer. Washington’s Muslim Brotherhood is the new face of Egypt. In the past year, similar radical Islamist groups have taken over in Libya and Tunisia as the result of illegal Western interventions.
Well played, Washington, London, and Tel Aviv. Now you have your war against Islam. Now you can point at the bad guys, the rising Islamists, and tell your populations to hate and fear.
9/11 didn’t do enough to stir the passions and subdue the Western mind under a dark cloud of terror. The rise of Islamists in the wake of the CIA’s Arab Spring might do the trick. The West has the jitters now. The Muslim Brotherhood is in power. Oooooh, so scary. “Oh my God, not the Muslim Brotherhood. O’ Government Master, please keep me safe from those bad guys. I’ll do anything you want.”
The success of the Muslim Brotherhood at the polls is a big win for the Israeli government, which was secretly supporting Morsi all along.
How does Israel win? It can identify the Muslim Brotherhood as a powerful enemy of Israel that’s been democratically elected by Egyptian voters, and continue to portray Arabs as anti-Jewish extremists. Israel’s PR machine was spinning into gear even before the votes were counted. Israel was like, “Let’s go Muslim Brothers. Win, baby, win. Win so we can have war.”
After helping Washington to put Islamic extremists in power across North Africa, Israel can say to the world, “Look, we’re surrounded by our enemies, the rising Islamic extremists. Help! Help! I’m drowning! I’m drowning! Help!” And Washington will respond, “Oh, my dear Israel, you poor thing, here are more weapons for your new acts of aggression. Start new wars, as much as you like. We’re right here behind you, and we’re not going to let you drown.”
Washington’s new Islamist pawns in power in the Arab world could become very unpopular and an anti-Islamist coalition may rise and defeat them. Or not. The victory of the Muslim Brotherhood shows that America’s last days in the heartland of Arabia are still very far away.

Iraq Orders Mass Closure of Media Outlets
Press Freedom Group Says Critics Being Targeted
by Jason Ditz, June 24, 2012
Iraqi press freedom advocates are loudly protesting today after the news that the Iraqi Communications and Media Commission has ordered police to close 44 media outletsnationwide.
Iraqi officials shrugged off the news, saying it was an “organizational” matter and accusing the groups of not being formally licensed. The NGO workers say that it is rather an attempt by the Maliki regime to shutter critics of his continued rule.
So far the groups haven’t actually been shut down, but press freedom groups say that the order, as well as the implication that more closures could be ordered as well at any time, would have a chilling effect on domestic media in the nation.
Iraq’s government has been claiming broad authority for censorship virtually since its installation by US occupation forces, and with Maliki becoming a more and more polarizing figure, he is likely to see unfriendly press coverage as a challenge which, like so many other challenges to his rule, is to be met with force.
