UK's MI5 chief warns of 'terrorism threat'

London has staged a series of drills ahead of the Olympics in preparation for a potential attack

Britain has seen a credible "terrorist" attack plot about once a year since the September 11 attacks, a worrying pattern as London prepares to host the Olympics, the head of the country's intelligence agency has said. Jonathan Evans, MI5's director-general, spoke at the mayor of London's annual defence and security lecture on Monday. He said that although the threat level in the United Kingdom is a notch below where it has been for much of the past decade, the risk is still substantial. "Our assessment is that Britain has experienced a credible terrorist attack plot about once a year since 9/11,'' he said.  "The [Olympic] games present an attractive target for our enemies and they will be at the center of the world's attention in a month or so," he said. "But the games are not an easy target, and the fact that we have disrupted multiple terrorist plots here and abroad in recent years demonstrates that the UK as a whole is not an easy target for terrorism." Not so long ago, 75 per cent of the terror threats prioritised by MI5 had links to Afghanistan or Pakistan, Evans said. But Britain's efforts, along with those of its international partners, has brought that percentage down to below 50 per cent. "You could say that we are near to reaching a form of stalemate," said Evans. "They haven't stopped trying but we have got better at stopping them." But the "terrorist" threat is also widening to include al-Qaeda affiliates in Mali, Yemen, Somalia and parts of the Middle East, he noted. The 'Arab Spring effect' Evans also said that although uprisings in the Arab world have brought about radical political changes in some countries, they have also brought fresh opportunities for al-Qaeda affiliates to seek refuge. "Some are heading home to the Arab world again,'' Evans said. "And a small number of British would-be jihadis are also making their way to Arab countries to seek training and opportunities for militant activity, as they do in Somalia and Yemen. Some will return to the UK and pose a threat here. This is a new and worrying development." MI5 has grown since the September 11 attacks in the United States, going from 1,800 to 3,800 staff, some of whom joined after Britain's own homegrown suicide bombings that killed 52 people in 2005. Since then, several international terror plots have been hatched in the UK, including the 2006 trans-Atlantic airliner plot to down several planes using liquid explosives. A handful of terror trials are also under way. Evans stressed that other countries, such as Iran, should not be underestimated either. "We have seen in recent months a series of attempted terrorist plots against Israeli interests in India, Azerbaijan and elsewhere," he said. "So a return to state-sponsored terrorism by Iran or its associates, such as Hezbollah, cannot be ruled out as pressure on the Iranian leadership increases." And the threat of cyberattacks has recently become more prominent, he said. In one recent case, a major London-listed company incurred revenue losses of $1.2b because of a single attack, Evans said. He did not elaborate on the company's name or what country was behind the attack. The ITV report focuses on comparatively tame “security breaches” such as improper training of employees and their failure to conduct sufficient vehicle checks in preparation for the London Olympics which begins on July 27. The report also reveals how sniffer dogs tasked with finding explosives have not even been trained in bomb detection. It also highlights how lorries and vans belonging to contractors have not been adequately searched. However, the ITV report completely omits the most damaging revelations which suggest that security for the London Olympics is virtually designed to fail. Although Lee Hazledean approached major news networks with his astounding story, he was rebuffed and told there was a “blackout” on such information. As we reported at length yesterday, Hazledean’s findings can be summarized as follows. - Hazledean was able to get the job of a security officer via a simple application process. No background checks were carried out and his personal references were not checked. - Hazledean was successful in taking guns, knives and explosives through both metal detectors and body scanners on numerous occasions during dummy runs. - Hazledean was told that metal detectors and body scanners would be deactivated at peak times in order to get crowds into the Olympic venue quicker.

- Hazledean was also informed that 200,000 casket linings that can hold four dead bodies each have been shipped into London in preparation for the Games.

- Thousands of foreign troops under the auspices of the United Nations have also been brought into London.

- Plans for an evacuation of London in the aftermath of a deadly terrorist attack have been discussed at great length. G4S employees were briefed on the evacuation plan to a greater extent than the time spent on training them to conduct security screening.

- G4S security staff have been caught doing drug deals while in training with no retribution. Uniforms have also been handed out to unauthorized personnel as well as uniforms being stolen. G4S staff have also been caught taking photographs on their cellphones of secure locations.

- Hazledean was told that Predator drones of the type used in Afghanistan and Yemen would be circling London during the Olympics.

- Hazledean believes G4S security staff are so poorly trained and the security operation as a whole is so lax that terrorists could quite easily stage a “massacre” during the Games.

Not a single one of these revelations appeared in the ITV News piece. Other news networks like Channel 4 refuse to cover the story at all.

Whistleblower Reveals Plan To Evacuate London During Olympics

200,000 casket linings on standby says undercover journalist who infiltrated security team

An undercover journalist going by the pseudonym ‘Lee Hazledean’ has blown the whistle on astounding revelations about how he infiltrated the G4S – the company responsible for security at the London Olympics – and discovered shocking plans for the evacuation of London, 200,000 ‘casket linings’ being on standby, along with botched security procedures that leave the Games wide open to attack.

Hazledean’s interview with Tony Gosling, Bilderberg.org editor and host of BCFM’s Friday Drivetime, has gone viral on the web over the last few days. Hazledean is an undercover journalist for a television program in London and has worked with news agencies on hard-hitting subjects, but when he approached the mainstream media with his bombshell story, they showed no interest.

When Hazledean asked Channel 4 News Home Affairs Correspondent Andy Davies if he would run the story, Davies said he wasn’t interested and days later Channel 4 ran a puff piece about G4S which portrayed the organization as competent and trustworthy.

“I sent him an email, I called, he wasn’t interested and he said there’s a media blackout on this kind of story, that nobody would be interested in running it,” said Hazledean.

In the interview, Hazledean divulges how he merely had to fill in an application form to get a job with G4S, the private company providing security for the Olympics, that he underwent no background check whatsoever, and that his personal references were not checked.

Employees are given just two days of training to run airport-style security checkpoints which include body scanners, which Hazledean said “would be turned off completely” at peak times, meaning terrorists could just walk straight into the event with ammunition or explosives and have an excellent chance of remaining undetected.

“In fact, I was asked to be a would-be terrorist on the final training day and I was given a knife, a gun and an IED, and on all three occasions throughout the day I got through the metal detector and I also got through the x-ray machine scanner,” said Hazledean, adding that terrorists could quite easily stage a “massacre” given the lax nature of the security.

“They’re not training them properly…it’s quite open to a terrorist attack very easily and I don’t say that lightly,” said Hazledean, adding that he witnessed G4S members doing drug deals while training classes were taking place, while others were taking surveillance photos on their cellphones of supposedly secure areas. Hazledean said a lot of the security staff were poorly qualified and that many of them could barely speak English.

Hazledean also revealed how the large contingent of soldiers being brought into London for the Olympic Games included “a lot of UN troops being posted in and around London,” including American and German troops.

The whistleblower also revealed how unauthorized personnel were being handed G4S uniforms and that uniforms had been stolen.

Hazledean’s most chilling revelation was how he learned about preparations to evacuate London and how, “The security guards used for the Olympics will be at the forefront of getting the public out of London.”

“They seem quite serious about it, they’ve spent a lot of time on this,” said Hazledean, noting how G4S spent two hours talking about the evacuation of London in comparison to just half an hour talking about security screening procedures for the Olympics itself.

The whistleblower also noted how the 100,000 plus troops that would be stationed in London during the Olympics would be enough to carry out such a large scale evacuation.

Another chilling facet Hazledean learned was that 200,000 casket linings (temporary coffins) were being shipped in to London that can hold four bodies each. The whistleblower expressed his amazement at why security guards working on mundane screening procedures would need to be told such information.

The whistleblower also revealed how he was told Predator drones would be circling London in readiness for terrorist attacks, and that G4S employees were shown a video of a drone killing a group of people in Afghanistan.

Hazledean noted how G4S leaders saw the public as “the scum of the earth” and also told their employees that the police had no authority over them. He also related how one of the leaders told him that an event after the Olympics would be a “defining moment” for London but when pressed, refused to divulge what she meant.

Hazledean is not the first to blow the whistle on G4S. Earlier this month, data input clerk Sarah Hubble revealed that she was fired by G4S after complaining that G4S was cutting corners in their security preparations for the Olympics and that she herself had not been vetted.

Speaking with Infowars, Hazledean said that he had been making contingency plans for if his life was put in danger or if he became a target for the authorities in any other way after blowing the whistle on the scandal.

Asked about a meme circulating the web that conspiracy theories about a false flag attack occurring at the London Olympics are being deliberately allowed to proliferate in order to make ‘truthers’ look paranoid after nothing happens, Hazledean stressed that merely getting the story out was necessary as it could derail any planned attack.
