Toxic Assets: Japan Govt. To Make Fukushima & Nuclear Industry Taxpayer’s Problem As TEPCO Flounders

Toxic Assets: Japan Govt. To Make Fukushima & Nuclear Industry Taxpayer’s Problem As TEPCO Flounders
The LDP has hatched a new scheme to solve all of their inconvenient nuclear problems. TEPCO and all the other utility companies in Japan that have reactors would dump them all into a single new company with a partial ownership by the Japanese government. This would put the government (and taxpayers) directly in financial risk for this risky scheme. The idea would potentially allow the utilities to sell their reactors or move them into this … Read entire article »

TEPCO Admits Damage To Unit 4 Fuel And Pool

TEPCO Admits Damage To Unit 4 Fuel And Pool
This news report contains two critical pieces of information regarding the removal of used fuel at unit 4. TEPCO admits that some of the spent fuel is damaged, characterizing “most” of the fuel to be undamaged. What is not known is to what extent some of the fuel is damaged or how much fuel is not included in “most” being … Read entire article »

Fukushima Diary......

Radiation level of 300m3 leakage area increasing for 3 days / Tepco denies the possibility of another leakage

Note : If you are from the international mass media, Don’t read this site.

All β nuclide (Including Strontium-90) density in the retained water increased for 3 continuous days in the tank area that experienced 300m3 of leakage.
The sample is the “rainwater” retained in the tank area dam.
The sampling dates were from 10/18 to 10/20/2013.

10/18/2013 : 360,000,000 Bq/m3
10/19/2013 : 450,000,000 Bq/m3
10/20/2013 : 510,000,000 Bq/m3

Having this measurement, Tepco denies the possibility of additional leakage from another tank. They claimed the radioactive material was detached from the bottom of the leaked tank.

140,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β detected in the drain / 2.4 times much as one day before

Note : If you are from the international mass media, Don’t read this site.

Following up this article.. 59,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β detected in the drain / Highest reading ever [URL]

One day has passed and the past record was already broken.
From the sample taken on 10/23/2013, Tepco measured 140,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclides (including Strontium-90) from the same drain.
This is 2.4 times much as the previous highest reading.

From the upstream of this sampling place in the drain, they also measured the highest level of all β nuclide on 10/23/2013. The reading was 15,000,000 Bq/m3.
The previous highest reading was 2,200,000 Bq/m3 of 10/1/2013.

The contaminated water is flowing to the Pacific on-going.

Tepco to start removing fuel from reactor4 pool around 10th November

The Fukushima worker “Happy11311″ commented on Twitter that the spent fuel removal from reactor4 pool will start from around 10th November 2013.
Tepco has been announcing it would start from mid November.

Tepco’s Typhoon measures to prevent contaminated water overflowing entirely messed up

Two more Typhoons are coming to hit Japan from this weekend.
(cf, Two more Typhoons are coming to Japan / Meteorological Agency “Unpredictable” [URL])

Having 11 tank area dams overflow on 10/20/2013 even in the normal rain, Tepco is trying to prevent the mixture of rainwater and contaminated water from overflowing due to the next Typhoons.

However the back-up tanks of 4,000 m3 capacity is nearly full already. Tepco has to rely on the underground reservoirs that leaked contaminated water this April.
On 10/23/2013, they released the map of water transferring between the tank area dams and the back-up reservoirs, but it looks shockingly unorganized (The image below).
They are going to introduce additional tankers and fire-engine but it is not known if they can control the water sufficiently.

59,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β detected in the drain / Highest reading ever

59,000,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclide (including Strontium-90) was detected in the drain connected to the Pacific.
This is the highest reading of the sampling location, where is near the tank that experienced 300m3 leakage. The sampling date was 10/22/2013.

It’s 74% higher than the past highest reading, which was 34,000,000 Bq/m3 detected on 10/17/2013.

Tepco states it is because the accumulated contamination flowed to the drain due to the rain.
The contamination level tends to increase every time it rains recently.

[Pacific Contamination] Cs-137 detected in seawater 1km offshore Fukushima plant port again / 14% increased

Following up this article.. [Pacific contamination] Cs-137 detected 1km offshore Fukushima plant for the first time [URL]

10 days have passed, and Cesium-137 was detected in seawater taken from 1km offshore Fukushima plant port again.
The reading was 1,600 Bq/m3. It’s 14% higher than last time.

Japanese Prime Minister Abe stated to IOC that the contaminated water is blocked inside of the port but this Cs-137 detection already proved it was false.

Tepco discharged “rainwater” of 2 tank area dams again / Not even a Typhoon weather

On 10/23/2013, Tepco discharged “rainwater” retained in two tank area dams again. Radioactive densities were lower than the safety limit according to Tepco.

Two more Typhoons are coming to Japan from this weekend. (cf, Two more Typhoons are coming to Japan / Meteorological Agency “Unpredictable” [URL]) Also, the back-up tanks of 4,000 tonnes capacity are nearly full. (cf, Back-up tanks of 4,000 tonnes are already nearly full with two more Typhoons coming [URL 2])

Tepco claims they had to release the water because it continued raining.
