High level of Tritium and all β nuclides (including Strontium-90) are measured from groundwater taken beside each reactor building and turbine building of reactor1~4.
The mixture of the coolant water and groundwater are retained in those buildings. If it’s leaking out of the buildings, it means the water that directly touched molten fuel is flowing to the Pacific. So far, Tepco has not even admitted the possibility of this direct leakage.
However, high level of Tritium / all β nuclides (including Strontium-90) are detected from a certain percentage of those samples.
According to Tepco, 20,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium was measured from groundwater taken on the seaside of reactor2 turbine building. The sampling date was 9/11/2013. This is near the area where Tepco built the impervious wall on the coastal line, but they didn’t mention the possibility that the groundwater was / is contaminated due to the direct leakage.
Having this significantly high level of Tritium measured just beside reactor2 building, Tepco has made no announcement about the possible direct leakage.
Tepco disclosed the drain contamination data after 1 week blank → All β rose 2.6 times much as the past highest

Following up this article..Leaked tank contamination data been masked even after “the cleaning” since IOC selected Tokyo for 2020 Olympic host [URL]
After 1 week of blank, Tepco disclosed the data of one of the untested locations in the drain.
The all β (including strontium-90) density was 2,400,000 Bq/m3, which is 2.6 times much as the past highest reading of 920,000 Bq/m3.
The sampling location is near the intersection of the drains nearby the tank area, which experienced 300m3 leakage.
Those drains are connected to be the one to flow to the Pacific directly.
Tepco comments the increase of all β density is due to the retained water produced by the cleaning of 9/7/2013.
Increasing Tritium density in leaked tank area, 97,000Bq/L → 130,000Bq/L → 150,000Bq/L

On 9/13/2013 (Yesterday), Fukushima Diary reported 97,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium was detected in 300m3 leakage tank area.
(cf, 97,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium detected in groundwater of 300m3 leakage tank area / 1.5 times much as one day before [URL])
Today Fukushima Diary needs to update it again.
According to Tepco, Tritium density became 130,000,000 Bq/m3 on 9/12/2013, and it increased to be 150,000,000 Bq/m3 on 9/13/2013.
It keeps increasing but the reason is not verified yet.
Tepco suspects it may be due to 300m3 leakage or the past leakage in April of 2012.
However, none of the can explain why Tritium density is still increasing at real-time.
[Too many tanks] Leaked tank can’t be dismantled before the next tank dismantled because of no space among the tanks
Posted by Mochizuki on September 14th, 2013 · No Comments
Having 300m3 of the highly contaminated water leaked from a tank, Tepco is planning to dismantle the tank.
However Tepco started dismantling the next tank on 9/13/2013, which is located on the South side of the 300m3 leakage tank.
In the press conference of 9/13/2013, Tepco’s spokesman commented they need to dismantle from the next tank otherwise there is no room to dismantle the 300m3 leakage tank. The tanks are over crowded even to dismantle.
Tepco admitted leaked radiation is diluted outside of Fukushima plant port

In the press conference of 9/13/2013, Tepco’s spokesman commented the radiation level in seawater outside of Fukushima plant port is lower than the safety limit, but it’s partially due to the dilution by the seawater.
From the statement of Japanese Prime Minister Abe to IOC, the contaminated water is completely blocked within the port, so the radiation density is low in the Pacific.
Tepco’s comment contradicts Abe’s announcement to IOC.

[Leakage everywhere] Retained water
treatment system for reactor5&6 leaked 9L /
Automotive system

Variety of contaminated water storage and treatment system are leaking in Fukushima nuclear plant one after one.
According to Tepco, Tepco employee found another water leakage at 15:20 of 9/12/2013.
The water spread 3m×3m×1mm (9L). It was “automotive” retained water treatment system for reactor5 and 6.
They also found the sign of past leakage in the trailer, where the system is installed, spreading in 2m×6m area.
Tepco comments the Cesium-134/137 density is less than the water that they sprinkle in the plant area, which is less than 1×10^4 Bq/m3 (Cs-134/137).
β nuclides density wasn’t announced.
97,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium detected in groundwater of 300m3 leakage tank area / 1.5 times much as one day before
Posted by Mochizuki on September 13th, 2013 · No Comments
On 9/12/2013 (yesterday), Fukushima Diary reported they detected 64,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium in the groundwater taken beside the tank that experienced 300 m3 leakage.
(cf, 64,000,000 Bq/m3 Tritium in groundwater besides leaked tank / 15 times much as 2 days before [URL])
Though it has the least media coverage from outside of Japan, the situation is becoming serious increasingly.
According to Tepco, 97,000,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium was detected in the groundwater from the same sampling location.
This means the Tritium density increased to be 1.5 times much only within a day.
In the press conference of 9/11/2013, Tepco’s vice president stated Tritium reached the groundwater certainly.
(cf, Tepco’s vice president “Tritium got into groundwater certainly” [URL 2])
It is unpredictable that how much more the contamination will spread.

According to Tepco, the “Steam”, which was often observed in early August, was found on the top of reactor3 building again.
At 8:00 AM of 9/13/2013, the “steam” was observed coming up from the 5th floor of reactor3 building, which is the same location as August.
At the moment of 8:30AM, no abnormality was reported about the plant parameter and the monitoring posts according to Tepco.
Tepco’s vice president “We are eager to implement groundwater bypass plan”

Having Tritium density increasing upstream of the groundwater stream, Tepco’s vice president Aizawa commented in the press conference of 9/11/2013 that they are eager to bypass the groundwater to the Pacific.
They have made the pumping wells to discharge groundwater to the Pacific. The pumped water won’t be filtrated.
According to Tepco’s own report, because the same volume of groundwater as pumped would be gathered from the surrounding areas, it wouldn’t reduce the groundwater volume to treat. However, Tepco is not reconsidering the bypass plan.

In the press conference of 9/11/2013, Tepco’s vice president Aizawa stated Tritium density is increasing in the groundwater around the leaked tank that experienced 300m3 of leakage. It’s sure that at least Tritium got into the groundwater.
He emphasized now it is important to verify where the contaminated groundwater flows.
Tepco has groundwater pumping wells for “bypass” downstream of the contaminated groundwater stream. If the contaminated groundwater reaches the pumping wells, Tepco would need to “reconsider” the groundwater bypass plan.
JP PM Abe “Under control”→Vice president of Tepco “Fukushima is still like a field hospital”

Following up this article..Tepco inquired JP Gov about PM Abe’s statement to IOC “Contaminated water is entirely blocked” [URL]
On 9/11/2013, Tepco’s vice president Aizawa joined the press conference held in J Village of Fukushima.
In this press conference, he stated Fukushima nuclear plant is still in the state of “field hospital”.
He said it has been 2 years and 6 months, but the plant is still like in the scene of fire. They have been taking “spur-of-the-moment” countermeasures. It can’t last for decommissioning in 40 years.
He explained in the normal nuclear plant, contaminated water and debris are entirely packed and controlled. The current state of Fukushima nuclear plant is far from the normal state of a nuclear power plant.
He concluded “Fukushima nuclear plant is full of problems.”.

Following up this article..Tepco masked the radiation data of around 300m3 leaked tank one day before IOC selected Tokyo for 2020 Olympic [URL]
In the press conference of 9/9/2013, Tepco commented they finished cleaning the drain on 9/7/2013. However, the contamination data of the drain was masked after the “cleaning”.
At this moment of 9/12/2013, the latest data of 9/11/2013 is still masked for some reason.
If they finished cleaning the drain, there is no reason why they can’t disclose the contamination data.

What Is Going On At Fukushima Daiichi Right Now
TEPCO tends to bury bits of information among obscure sources while pushing their distraction of the day at the public. These are some of the things of note this week that have changed at the plant. Unit 2 Pressure Drop Unit 2 has continued to see containment pressure drop. TEPCO resolved the initial drop in pressure by closing a valve. The pressure slightly recovered then began to drop again this week. It has slowly dropped each day this week and is now down to 4.70 kPa g. TEPCO makes no explanation for the ongoing loss of pressure in containment at unit 2. Readings previous to this change had been in the 15 kPa g range for months.
