Benghazi, 28 July 2013:
There has been a massive explosion this evening in central Benghazi, outside the city’s north courthouse.
The blast occurred immediately after sunset prayers while people were preparing for Iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast. The explosion could be heard across the city.
The incident took place in a cul-de-sac between the Maydan Al-Tahrir courthouse and the former internal security building of the old regime, spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room, Mohamed Hejazi, told the Libya Herald.
The cause of the explosion is not yet clear but Hejazi said that a bomb in a bag left outside the courthouse was detonated.
Ten people were injured in the blast and have been taken to the city’s Al-Hawri hospital. The explosion has also caused major structural damage to the court buildings, Hejazi added.

Benghazi, 28 July 2013:
Benghazi was targeted with two bombs this evening, a Libya Herald reporter has confirmed.
A car-bomb was detonated outside Benghazi north courthouse and a bomb in a bag exploded between the Benghazi branch of the Ministry of Justice and the 7 October Hospital.
No-one was killed, but a number of people were injured. Spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room, Mohamed Hejazi, told the Libya Herald that ten people were taken to hospital. An eyewitness at the scene said that three security guards from the courthouse were injured.
All three buildings were extensively damaged in the blasts and the courthouse is partially destroyed. There is serious structural damage to the Ministry of Justice building and the hospital, as well as the nearby National Oil Corporation offices.
The power of the blast shattered widows in many other buildings in the area, including ones some distance away from the explosions themselves.
The two bombs were detonated – just seconds apart – after evening prayers, when people were preparing for Iftar.

A suicide bomber has killed eight Kurdish security forces personnel in northern Iraq, officials say.
The bomber blew up a car in the town of Tuz Khurmatu, near the city of Kirkuk, on Sunday beside a three-vehicle convoy of intelligence forces, the Assayeesh, an interior ministry source said.
Nine officers were wounded in the attack, a local official said.
Tuz Kharmato is primarily Shia Turkmen, but lies in the disputed areas claimed by Kurds, Turkmen and the central Iraqi government. It is part of a swathe of territory that the Kurds want to incorporate into their autonomous region in the north.
With the latest unrest, more than 720 people have been killed in Iraq in July, making it the deadliest month in a year marked by spiralling violence.
