New missile interceptor stationed to defend Air Force One against Obama-backed militants in Syria

Israel is stationing a new Iron Dome missile interceptor at Ben Gurion International Airport in preparation for next week’s visit by President Obama as a defense mechanism against a potential attack by the very same terrorists Obama supports in Syria.

“The innovative counter-missile weapon is to be deployed there, not just as a spectacle to honor the US president for his contribution to its development, but out of necessity for his safety,” reports DebkaFile. “Air Force One might be seen as fair game for the ground-to-ground missiles wielded by Al Qaeda units fighting Assad in Syria and its affiliates in the Sinai Peninsula at the very moment that the US President steps down to the strains of the IDF welcoming band.”
The fear is that Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists who have poured into Syria to lead rebels in the fight against Bashar Al-Assad over the last 12 months could target Air Force One using missiles loaded with poison chemicals.
The newly positioned Iron Dome will remain in place for three days while Obama visits Israel and Jordan. Existing missile defense systems positioned north and south of Tel Aviv were deemed insufficient to protect against the possibility of a rocket attack targeting Obama’s plane.
The spectacle of Israel having to put new security measures in place to protect Obama from the very same terrorists benefiting from his administration’s support of the insurgency in Syria is absurdly ironic.
Although the administration was forced to list Jabhat al-Nusra, a group responsible for killing US troops in Iraq, as a terrorist organization back in December, 29 different US-backed Syrian opposition groups immediately responded by pledging their allegiance to the Al-Qaeda-affiliated outfit.
Numerous reports confirm that Al Nusra is now the leading front line fighting force in Syria and is commanding other rebel groups.
Jabhat al-Nusra is an offshoot of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, another group responsible for killing US troops in Iraq, which recently claimed responsibility for the slaughter of 9 US-trained Iraqi soldiers along with 48 Syrian troops.
Al Nusra has been responsible for innumerable terrorist attacks, including targeting schoolsbeheadings, and has been filmed on several occasions torturing captured civilians its members accuse of working for Assad. The group recently claimed responsibility for a bus bombingwhich killed 60 civilians.
Despite efforts by some Syrian rebel groups to distance themselves from Al Nusra, numerous videos have emerged of FSA militants and their supporters burning US flags, chanting anti-American slogans and singing the praises of Osama Bin Laden while glorifying the 9/11 attacks.
Recent reports confirm that US Special Forces and contractors are training Syrian rebels in Jordan, militants who will almost immediately fall under the command of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists once they enter Syria. The US has also looked the other way when American citizens who fight alongside terrorists – people like and Eric Harroun and Matthew VanDyke - fly around the world and re-enter the United States.
The Obama administration’s prosecution of the war on terror has lost all credibility. After some of the same Libyan militants the US helped overthrow Gaddafi attacked the US consulate in Benghazi, Israel is now being forced to defend Obama against the same terrorists his administration has backed with hundreds of millions of dollars in Syria.

Al Qaeda’s Nusra fights to seize Syrian Golan in time for Obama visit

Al Qaeda’s Syrian wing, Jabhat al-Nusra, led a Syrian rebel operation Wednesday, March 13, to occupy Golan and cleanse it of every last Syrian troop loyal to Bashar Assad. The Islamists had two more objectives:
1. To be in position for cross-border attacks on Israel and Jordan – possibly in the course of US President Barack Obama’s March 20-22 visits to those countries.
2.  To use the “liberated” Syrian Golan as launching pads for a war of attrition against Israel and Jordan - like Taliban’s campaign against NATO forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Their deadline for achieving this objective is March 15.
Jabhat al-Nusra kicked off its Golan operation Wednesday, DEBKAfile’s military sources report, by murdering Gen. Nour e-Din Habib, commander of the Syrian Army’s 90th Brigade, parts of which remain on the Golan. He was struck down from a well-planned ambush against his convoy. Also killed in the attack was Col. Radouan Rifai, the brigade’s senior liaison officer with the Syrian 3rd Extended Division.
The purpose of the attack was to disable the brigade by wiping out its top command.
Our military sources add that, in the course of the fighting Wednesday, the Nusra front uncovered a secret network of large tunnels running from different points on the Golan up to the Israeli border. They are big enough for the passage of entire Syrian units with their tanks and heavy trucks, allowing them to pop up without warning against Israeli border units and use their surprise to mow them down and advance into the Israeli sector.
DEBKAfile reported earlier Wednesday:
US President  Barack Obama’s first engagement upon landing in Israel on March 20 will be a quick tour of the Iron Dome missile interceptor stationed at Ben Gurion international airport. After a round of handshakes, the officers and men operating the system will explain how it works.
The innovative counter-missile weapon is to be deployed there, not just as a spectacle to honor the US president for his contribution to its development, but out of necessity for his safety. Air Force One might be seen as fair game for the ground-to-ground missiles wielded by Al Qaeda units fighting Assad in Syria and its affiliates in the Sinai Peninsula at the very moment that the US President steps down to the strains of the IDF welcoming band.
In normal circumstances, personal security arrangements for a US presidential foreign visit are kept under close wraps and rarely visible to the public.
This time, DEBKAfile’s counterterrorism sources report, the visit’s planners made an exception. They decided there was no option but to visibly install an Iron Dome battery inside the airport, because the first battery plus a Patriot interceptor stationed for more than two months north and south of Tel Aviv were not sufficient guarantee of security against rocket attack for President Obama’s arrival.
This decision set up two precedents:
1. Air Force One will land on the Ben Gurion airport runway on March 20 enclosed by two defensive rings of US and Israeli missile interceptors in the densest formation ever to guard an American president's arrival in Israel.
2. The Iron Dome battery will stay in place for the three days of Obama’s visits to Israel and Jordan. It will defend Jerusalem’s air space against rocket attack for the duration of his stay.
Still fresh in Israeli memories are Hamas attempts just five months ago to hit the airport and Jerusalem with rockets fired from the Gaza Strip on the orders of the Iranian general Gen. Hassan Shateri aka Hossam Khosh-Nevis. This Iranian officer was killed in January in Syria in unknown circumstances.
No one in US and Israeli security circles is seriously suggesting that Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,  Syrian ruler Bashar Assad or Hizballah’s Hassan Nasrallah are planning to hit the Israeli airport with rockets on March 20. But neither is any responsible official prepared to expose the president to the slightest risk.
After all, in the more than 120,000 square kilometers of the Damascus-Baghdad-Amman triangle and the 62,000 square kilometers of the Sinai Peninsula, it may be possible to find a jihadist commander willing to act on an order from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zuwahiri to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden in on May 2 two years ago in Pakistan at the hands of American commandos.
Both groups of security experts appreciate that Zuwahiri has the motive for punishing the US president for ordering his death and, for the first time, the capacity to reach him from al Qaeda-controlled territory with surface missiles loaded with poison chemicals.
Even if their weapon did not touch President Obama, it would be enough for one to explode on an Israeli or Jordanian air field at the time of his arrival for the terrorist organization to chalk up a major strategic feat.

( File under interesting coincidences , if there is such a thing - no , Obama will not be in the Middle East on good Friday ..... )

........ Obama will be entering Jerusalem on a day which marks one of the most famous events in human history, March 20th, or Nisan the 9th according to the Hebrew calendar. It was on this day that Jesus made his "triumphal entry" into Jerusalem riding a donkey. It is also noteworthy that ....... Obama will be riding a donkey too... the Democrat Party.

Remarkably .......Obama may have orchestrated his own personal "last Supper" - a meeting on the 14th of March with 12 Republican senators.

The guest list included Republican Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Bob Corker of Tennessee, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Dan Coats of Indiana, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Mike Johanns of Nebraska, John Hoeven of North Dakota and Saxby Chambliss of Georgia.

More locusts invade Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A third swarm of thousands of locusts crossed into Israel from Egypt.
Four crop-dusting planes on Monday sprayed the area of the Ramat HaNegev Regional Council, home to many farming communities, where the insects have invaded.
The swarm of about 30 million locusts first appeared near Cairo on March 2 and caused millions of dollars worth of crop damage in Egypt.
The locust attack comes in the weeks before the start of Passover, which recalls a destructive plague of locusts that the Bible says was sent by God to help free the Jewish slaves.

Itinerary for President Obama first trip as President to Israel .... Jordan and the West Bank also part of the Middle East swing......

Itinerary for President Obama’s visit to Israel March 20-22.

In Uncategorized on February 12, 2013 at 2:27 pm
obama-netanyahu-WHNext month, President Obama will make his first visit to Israel since taking office four years ago. The last time he was there was in 2008 as a U.S. Senator.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Mr. Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu will focus on three major themes: the Iranian nuclear threat, the implosion of Syria, and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
As I recently noted on this blog, there is a hope in Jerusalem that the President is coming to re-set U.S.-Israeli relations in a more positive way. But there is also concern among top Israeli leaders that the President is really coming pressure Netanyahu into cutting a bad deal with the Palestinians (including dividing Jerusalem) and promising not to launch a preemptive attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, even though Iran appears to be accelerating its bid for the Bomb, and North Korea — a key ally for Iran — has just conducted another nuclear test.
Now more details of the trip are emerging, including the itinerary. On Tuesday, Ynet News — the website of one of Israel’s leading newspapers, Yediot Aharonot — reported the draft schedule as follows:
Wednesday March 20
  • President Obama is scheduled to land in Ben Gurion International Airport around noon on Wednesday, March 20.
  • He will be welcomed by a State reception which will include speeches by President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and by the American president himself.
  • Obama will then fly to Jerusalem directly to Peres’ residence where he’ll again be ceremoniously received.
  • He will continue with Peres and Netanyahu to Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, where he will lay a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance.
  • The next stop will be Mount Herzl, where Obama will lay a wreath on Herzl’s tomb as a gesture to Zionism. Obama will continue to Yitzhak Rabin’s tomb, laying a wreath there as well.
  • In the afternoon the entourage will arrive at the prime minister’s house, where Netanyahu and Obama will meet with small delegations to discuss issues such as Iran, Syria, the peace process and Jonathan Pollard.
  • Following the meeting a joint press conference will be held, after which the two and their staff will dine together.
Thursday, March 21
  • In the morning, President Obama will depart for Ramallah to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
  • Obama will return to Jerusalem by noon, when he will be taken by Netanyahu to examine a model of Second Temple Period Jerusalem.
  • They will continue to the Shrine of the Book, where Netanyahu will show him the Dead Sea Scrolls.
  • The American President will continue to see an exhibition in the Israel Museum, which will show Israel’s latest developments in high-tech, bio-tech, nanotechnology and agriculture.
  • In the afternoon Obama will address Israelis in a public speech in the Israel Museum or in the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. The Americans have requested the presence of at least 1,000 Israelis.
  • Later, Obama will be hosted for a ceremonial dinner by Peres.
Friday, March 22
  • President Obama will breakfast with Netanyahu in his home or in King David Hotel.
  • The two will go to visit an Iron Dome battery, where Obama will meet with the soldiers manning the battery.
  • At 1:00pm local time, a farewell ceremony will take place in the International Airport, from which the president will depart to meet King Abdullah in Jordan.

PA to Obama: Coordinate visit to ‘occupied’ Jerusalem with us

Hamas calls for daily ‘confrontation with the Zionists’ ahead of president’s trip, ‘even if this entails martyrs’

Days after the Hamas government in Gaza warned US President Barack Obama against visiting the Temple Mount during his visit to Israel starting March 20, the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank demanded on Tuesday that Obama coordinate his Jerusalem tour with the PA, since the city, it claimed, is “occupied territory.”
Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki told Palestinian National Radio that coordination between the US and Palestinian governments is underway surrounding Obama’s visit to the West Bank, though the itinerary has not yet been finalized.

“Jerusalem is occupied Palestinian land and visiting it should be coordinated with the Palestinian side, with Palestinian attendance and participation,” Malki said.
Obama is set to visit Ramallah, to meet with PA President Mahmoud Abbas, for a few hours on Mach 21, and may also briefly go to Bethlehem on March 22.
A Palestinian grassroots group is planning demonstrations against expected American pressure to resume what it called “useless” negotiations.
“You are not welcome in Palestine,” read a meme on the Facebook pageof Palestinians for Dignity, designed to resemble an immigration stamp in Obama’s passport.
Another satirical image on the page displays the US president as saying in Arabic, “American support for Israel is sacred and we must help it remain militarily superior.” An angry protester in a photo below responds in English, “this is a Welcome kiss from the Palestinian people, dog,” as he hurls a shoe at Obama, an Arab symbol of disdain.

The group called on Palestinians to take to the streets and protest the visit of an American leader “who considers Israel his closest ally in the region.” It also blasted the PLO for ignoring Obama’s role in thwarting the Palestinian bid for statehood at the UN Security Council in 2011 and voting against non-member status at the General Assembly last November.
Basem Ezbidi, a political scientist at Bir Zeit University near Ramallah, said that the Palestinians’ manifest frustration stems from Obama’s lack of vision on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. No one on the Palestinian street is expecting substantial change on the ground with regards to the peace process, he added.
“Palestinians are fully aware of the fact that during his second term in office Obama will focus on issues that may be considered ‘success stories’,” Ezbidi told The Times of Israel. “Our conflict is not within that context.”
Ezbidi said that Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad will likely make two main requests of the American administration: to pressure Israel into easing economic restrictions, namely the intermittent withholding of millions of dollars in tax revenues Israel collects on behalf of the PA; and exerting pressure on Israel to return to the negotiating table following a settlement freeze.
Obama is unlikely to deliver on either of these points, Ezbidi reasoned, given the new right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Rumors that Obama intends to visit the al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount persisted on Tuesday. In an op-ed titled “Receive Obama the way Sharon was received,” published Monday on Hamas’s news website Al-Resalah, columnist Mustafa Sawwaf called on Palestinians to confront “Zionists” on a daily basis ahead of Obama’s visit to the city.

“Palestinians everywhere should begin their activities with direct confrontation with the Zionists in preparation for Obama’s visit, even if this entails martyrs and injured [Palestinians] until the ominous day of the visit,” wrote Sawwaf.
“That should be the day of battle, the great day of mobilization worthy of the American president.”
Meanwhile, Hamas official Moussa Abu-Marzouq, deputy head of the movement’s political bureau, said on Tuesday that reconciliation talks with Fatah were suspended last week following an American threat to withdraw $450 million in funding for the PA if talks proceed.
Abu-Marzouq said that the United States had pressured the European Union to follow suit.
