Reactor2 was releasing 2 million Bq of radioactive material every single hour “Reactor3 may be worse.”

On 3/11/2013, Fukushima Diary reported Tepco finally closed the blow-out panel of reactor2. [URL]
According to Tepco, 2 million Bq of radioactive material used to be released from reactor2 per hour until they managed to close the blow-out panel.(Specific nuclide is not announced.) They state they couldn’t close the panel sooner due to the high level of radiation.
Tepco comments, the panel was “accidentally” opened by the blast of reactor1. It managed to release hydrogen gas to avoid the hydrogen explosion of the reactor building supposedly.
They explain reactor2 released most of the radioactive material into the atmosphere, but journalist Kino points out the possibility that they haven’t measured the actual amount of radioactive material to release from reactor3.

At this moment, they state reactor2 releases most of the radioactive material, but I think that’s just they haven’t measured the released amount from reactor3. Reactor1 is covered, reactor2 has the reactor building, but reactor3 had the building collapsed, there’s no place to measure.

Contaminated water still contains 2,600 ~ 4,700 Bq/m3 of Sr-90 even after ALPS
Posted by Mochizuki on March 13th, 2013 · No Comments
According to NRA (Nuclear Regulation Authority), contaminated retained water of Fukushima plant still contains 2.6 ~ 4.7 Bq/L of Strontium-90 even after purified by ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System) based on their basic trial test of ALPS.
The water contains 16000000 ~ 120000000 Bq/L of Strontium-90 before purification.
The water contains 16000000 ~ 120000000 Bq/L of Strontium-90 before purification.
The report is unclear in a couple of points.
1. The contaminated water is supposed to contain 11000000 ~ 51000000 Bq/L of Strontium-89. However, the half-life of Sr-89 is only 51 days. Is it still produced from nuclear fission ??
2. Alpha nuclides, such as Pu-238, 239, 240, Am-241, 242, 243, Cm-242, 243, 244 are not shown the amount. They are all summed up in “Gross alpha nuclides”. (0.46 ~16 Bq/L in unpurified water, less than 0.066 Bq/L after ALPS.) How much of each alpha nuclide is contained in the retained water ?
3. Why is reproduction of this report of NRA prohibited ? Isn’t it a public document ?

The second cesium adsorption apparatus “Sarry” to be suspended for inspection
Posted by Mochizuki on March 13th, 2013 · No Comments
From 3/15 to 3/22/2013, the second cesium adsorption apparatus “Sarry” will be suspended for reliability improvement and inspection.
Tepco is running out of the capacity to stock contaminated retained water. The radioactivity density of seawater around reactor1~4 is increasing for some reason, which may be caused by leakage of contaminated water to the sea.

1,700 victims sued the gov and Tepco for 5.4 billion yen compensation
Posted by Mochizuki on March 11th, 2013 · No Comments
On 3/11/2013, 1,650 victims jointly filed a suit in the court against the government and Tepco for 5.4 billion yen of compensation, which is the first case against the government.
800 victims filed a suit in Fukushima district court, 8 in Tokyo, 20 in Chiba, 822 in Iwaki branch of Fukushima district court.
They are to demand consolation money, evacuation cost, damage of business, and also make the ambient dose back to before 311.
More than half of the injected water didn’t reach reactor3 to cause meltdown in 311
Posted by Mochizuki on March 11th, 2013 · No Comments
According to NHK’s original research, only 45% of the water injected by fire-engine reached reactor3, and reactor3 ended up having meltdown.
NHK simulated the situation with experts to conclude 55% of the injected water leaked to condenser out of the reactor.
2 years have passed but it’s not even fully analyzed what exactly happened in Fukushima plant.
Prof. Takeda “Mass media is concealing the explosion scene of reactor4″
Posted by Mochizuki on March 11th, 2013 · No Comments
In the video interview of 3/11/2013, Prof. Takeda from Chubu university commented mass media must hold and conceal the explosion scene of reactor4.
(cf, Prof. Takeda “3/31/2015 is the last day of Japan” [URL])
He states, “Now that 2 years have passes, mass media probably has more information than the government.”
“They had the camera fixed at one point. They broadcast the explosion scene of reactor3 before the explosion of reactor4 and the scene after the explosion of reactor4. (Now the explosion scene of reactor3 is not published for some reason.) It’s very likely that they also have the explosion scene of reactor4.”
It is not known what exactly happened in reactor4 yet.

27% of the highly contaminated water tanks will need repairs in 2016, “1,000 tones for each”
Posted by Mochizuki on March 11th, 2013 · 1 Comment
Tepco is running out of the capacity to stock contaminated water, they are planning to discharge it to the sea.
However, 270 of 1,000 existing tanks will need repairs from around the spring of 2016 too.
These tanks (1,000 tones per each) were built provisionally just after 311. They are not even welded, only made by bolts and water stops. The gasket parts don’t last for over 5 years.

In 2016, Tepco will also run out of the spaces to build new tanks as well. Because Tepco needs to repair the tanks and also find the space to build new tanks while they build new tanks, they might discharge further volume of contaminated water to the sea.
