Obama’s “Gun Safety” Executive Actions Create Snitch Culture

Following his scripted dog and pony show with a gaggle of stage prop children, the imperial president on Wednesday signed a number of “executive actions” he claims will reduce “gun violence” (the actions do not cover violence committed with hammers and clubs which outpace violence committed with rifles).
The list includes an effort to turn doctors into stool pigeons for the state and encourages them to ask patients if they have guns at home and then ascertain if they are a threat to society. Mental health “professionals” will be obliged to rat out patients who might be suffering from paranoid delusions. So much for doctor-patient confidentiality.
Expect more on “gun safety” and mental illness as Obamacare come fully online. It will be used to take the firearms of citizens who will be designated mentally ill much the same way veterans who suffer from PTSD are now having their guns confiscated.
It is no mistake the feds are conflating “gun safety” and mental illness. In the not too distant future, thegovernment will classify gun ownership as a “safety” issue that threatens family members and society as a whole. The establishment media is alreadyattempting to portray the so-called “gun culture” as a form of collective mental illness requiring “common sense” (as mandated by the state). It is also actively and aggressively demonizing advocates of the Second Amendment as “nutjobs” who need hospitalization.
Here is the full laundry list of “actions” Obama plans to takewithout consulting Congress or the American people:
1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper
training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

W.H. Releases Letters from Little Kids Pleading for Gun Control

    7:20 AM, JAN 16, 2013 • BY DANIEL HALPER
The White House today released letters from little kids pleading for gun control, just hours before President Obama is to release a comprehensive proposal to limit guns and ammunition. The letters were released to the Associated Press in what appears to be a coordinated effort to help shape the narrative the day of Obama's announcement.
"Three days after six teachers and 20 students were killed by a rampaging gunman at their elementary school in Newtown, Conn., an 8-year-old from Maryland pulled out a sheet of paper and asked President Barack Obama for 'some changes in the laws with guns,'" the AP reports.
"It's a free country but I recommend there needs (to) be a limit with guns," Grant wrote in a letter dated Dec. 17. "Please don't let people own machine guns or other powerful guns like that."
In the days after the shooting, children around the country had the same idea as Grant. They put their feelings about the massacre on paper and sent those letters to a receptive White House.
"I am writing to ask you to STOP gun violence," wrote Tajeah, a 10-year-old from Georgia. "I am very sad about the children who lost their lives. So, I thought I would write to you to STOP gun violence."
Half way through the article, the AP admits, "The White House shared three such letters with The Associated Press, from young writers who seemed to agree that Obama should do what's necessary to make it harder for people to get guns."
White House spokesman Jay Carney announced yesterday that Obama will be surrounded by little kids when he announces his gun proposal later today.
    Another letter reads:

Eleven-year-old Julia, who lives in the District of Columbia and dotted the "I'' in her name with a heart, wrote that she has four brothers and sisters and "I know I would not be able to bear the thought of losing any of them." She said it should be "very hard" for people to buy guns and closed by acknowledging that Obama can't do it alone.
"I know that laws have to be passed by Congress but I beg you to try very hard to make guns not allowed. Not just for me, but for the whole United States," Julia wrote, signing the letter with "my love and regrets." She will also be at the White House on Wednesday.
The White House appears not to have released a single letter to the AP in opposition to President Obama's gun proposal.

    Fatal school shooting in Kentucky

    Posted: Jan 15, 2013 7:57 PM ESTUpdated: Jan 15, 2013 8:43 PM EST
HAZARD, Ky. (WDRB/AP) --  State officials confirm two people have been fatally shot and a teen has been wounded at Hazard Community and Technical College, according to Buddy Rogers, a spokesman for Kentucky Emergency Management.
A dispatcher tells the AP the injured teen was being taken to the University of Kentucky hospital.
Rogers says his director was notified of the shooting incident Tuesday evening.

Hazard City Police are investigating the matter, while Kentucky State Police are assisting.

Governor Steve Beshear's office is aware of the shooting and is monitoring the situation, Kerri Richardson, the Governor's spokeswoman told WDRB News' Bennett Haeberle.
A dispatcher at Hazard City Police said to call back later for further information. He declined to release more details.

Conor Duff is the college's evening coordinator. Duff said the shootings happened about 4:30 p.m. at the campus 90 miles southeast of Lexington.

Duff said police then went through the school's two buildings to ensure no one else was at risk and said the school was put on lockdown.

This is a developing story. Check back here and watch WDRB News @ 10 for the latest information.

UPDATED at 6:30 p.m. with comment from college faculty member.
ST. LOUIS • A long-time employee of Stevens Institute of Business & Arts was shot by a student in a dispute over financial aid Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The student then shot himself in a stairwell.
Both men were in surgery Tuesday afternoon and St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said he was "hopeful" they would survive after the shooting.
Authorities said the victim, financial aid director Greg Elsenrath, was shot in the chest by a student with a handgun in a fourth-floor office about 2 p.m., police said. The suspected shooter then went to a stairwell between the third and fourth floors and shot himself. Dotson said a gun was found with the man.
The suspected shooter was an on-again, off-again student for the last four years, Dotson said. Police said the student, in his mid-30s, was familiar to faculty and to the victim.
"This did not appear to be random," Dotson said. "It appeared to be targeted."
A police source identified the injured shooter as Sean Johnson, 34, of the 5300 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue. Johnson was put on probation in 2011 after slashing at a man with a box cutter. Court records from the case indicate Johnson had mental health issues and was on prescribed medication.
Johnson's probation was revoked in May and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The reason isn't clear.
Late Tuesday afternoon, a large contingent of police and SWAT officers were at Johnson's home on Cote Brilliante. The road was closed between Union Boulevard and Arlington Avenue.
A neighbor, Lakeisha Cummings, 22, said she had seen Johnson walking up and down the streets in their neighborhood, often running to the store for his mother. Known as "Miss Kim," she operates a day care. She also helps feed needy families and had taken in children in need, adopting several.
Neighbors described the suspect the same way: Quiet and harmless, known to have learning disabilities, always seen walking up and down the street.
Elsenrath, who is in his 40s, graduated from Francis Howell High School in 1985. He holds a bachelor's degree from Missouri Valley College and a master's degree from Lindenwood University.
Ginger Reinert, head of the tourism and hospitality management department at Stevens Institute, said Elsenrath had been at the school for about 15 years.
"He is a wonderful guy," Reinert said. "This is simply traumatic for all of us."
    'SOMEONE'S SHOOTING'
Authorities surrounded the Stevens Institute Tuesday afternoon, the second day of classes for the winter quarter, after police got the initial calls about the shooting. A police helicopter flew overhead. A SWAT team and police dogs moved through the building, finding no other injured people and no other suspects.
The college currently has about 180 students. About 40-50 people were in the building at the time of the shooting, police said.
Authorities closed off Washington Avenue between 15th and 18th streets and St. Charles Avenue at 14th Street.
Angae Lowery, of Collinsville, said she drove to the school after she received a text message Tuesday afternoon from her daughter, Britanee Jones, a student at Stevens.
"The text said, 'Someone's shooting. Please help me,'" Lowery said. "I didn't know what to do. I was so scared."
As police secured the building, Lowery stood near the police tape near tears. After police released the students and employees from the building, Jones declined to conduct interviews with reporters but did say she was in a fashion management class when she heard the first shots.
Jameelah Tatum, 27, of St. Louis, attends the school and also owns a boutique, House of Glam, located across Washington from the school. Tatum said she has been attending interior design classes there for four years. She said she stepped outside her shop and saw one of the school's employees run out of the front door and prevent two young women from entering.
"And then I saw police car after police car start pulling up," Tatum said.
Tatum said she had planned to visit the school later in the day, to ask some questions of one of the teachers.
"I go over there just about every day," Tatum said. "But this is discouraging. I guess this can happen anywhere, but I've got one semester left and I'm thinking about finishing up through independent study."
Tatum said he had spoken to Elsenrath several times.
"I don’t know what the problem was, but Greg was always a real nice guy," she said. "He never showed any bad disposition ever to me."
The school announced on its Facebook page that it would close for a week, until Jan. 22 at 8 a.m.
There was a police presence at St. Louis University Hospital, where the suspect was taken. An investigator brought a bag of clothing in an evidence bag from the hospital and locked it in the trunk of a police car.
    A CRIMINAL HISTORY
The assault case involving Johnson stems from a 2009 attack on a cab driver. He was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Bridgeton police said Johnson was riding in the back seat of a cab in October 2009 when he took out a box cutter from his pocket and thrust it downward towards the driver's neck. The driver then took both hands off of his steering wheel and began struggling with Johnson, according to court documents.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a concrete median at Interstate 70 and Lindbergh Boulevard. When police arrived, the driver was still struggling with Johnson, according to the documents.
Johnson slashed at the victim's neck with the box cutter, according to the charges.
Eric Barnhart was Johnson's attorney. He said Johnson cut himself across the chest during the assault.
"He was a productive member of society when he was taking his medication, and struggled when he didn't," Barnhart said Tuesday.
Johnson pled guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree assault in July 2011. Judge Tom DePriest sentenced Johnson to five years of probation. The terms of that probation required Johnson to take his medication and have no contact with the cab driver. Probation was revoked and a warrant issued on May 24, with no bond allowed.
    SCHOOL DATES TO 1940s
The small for-profit school has been at its current location since 2010. Formerly known as Patricia Stevens College, the school relocated to the 25,000-square-foot downtown campus as part of an effort to expand the offerings and appeal of an institution that started in the 1940s as a finishing school for women.
While announcing the opening of its $3 million downtown campus, the school said it was adding bachelor's degrees in several fields, including business administration, interior design and fashion merchandising. According to 2011 federal education data, the school had an enrollment of 195 full- and part-time students, with 90 percent of them women. The school had seven full-time and 13 part-time faculty members, along with a handful of administrators.
School president Cynthia Musterman could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE: Ben Shapiro will appear on Piers Morgan's show tonight.  The CNN team has agreed to amend the format to included two segments of on-on-one debate between the host and the Breitbart News editor as well as a "town hall" forum.  Though it is a primetime show, it is expected that Morgan will take a page out of the daytime TV playbook and make an emotional appeal to the audience by featuring victims of gun crimes and their families.

Last night, CNN’s Piers Morgan invited Breitbart News Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro back on his program for a “balanced debate”:
Of course, last time, Shapiro vs. Morgan was a balanced debate – it was a one-on-one in which Morgan took a rhetorical beating. But taking Morgan at his word regarding “balance,” Shapiro immediately responded in the affirmative:
    Shapiro then tweeted:

But when it came time to book the show, Morgan’s team refused to tell Shapiro what the format of the show would be. When Shapiro said that he expected balance -- a second one-on-one interview with Morgan -- Morgan’s producers balked. They did insist strongly, however, that Shapiro appear on the show, where he would be “in for the entire show” and “have a huge part.” When Shapiro again reiterated that balance would be a one-on-one, and asked for more details on what his role would be, Morgan’s producers went silent.
“This is how the left manipulates media situations to ambush conservatives,” Shapiro said. “Piers and I had a good conversation last week about gun control; if he wants a rematch, I’m always game.”
Earlier in the day, Morgan tweeted:
It seems relatively clear what Morgan’s plan was. If Shapiro was to be the centerpiece of the show but not to have any one-on-one facetime with Morgan, this was to be Morgan’s revenge for his clobbering in the last faceoff with Shapiro. During that debate, Shapiro accused Morgan of “standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook.” Morgan had no coherent response. This time, it seems, Morgan wasn’t just going to stand on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook – he was going to stack the audience with grieving parents and relatives of the victims of Newtown, then confront Shapiro with them.
That wasn’t a game Shapiro was going to play.
“The reason conservatives lose the debate,” said Shapiro, “is that they let the left control the terms of the debate utilizing bully tactics. Piers apparently can’t articulate an argument for his position without exploiting the grief of gunshot victims. If he could, he’d have a discussion one on one. I expected him to be more honest than to define ‘balance’ as a coordinated assault on a political position, using victims as props.
“Then again,” Shapiro added, “maybe I didn’t.”
