US Embassy, Athens Warns Of Rise In 'Unprovoked' Racist Attacks
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/16/2012 19:56 -0500
With over 10% of the Greek population polling in favor of the neo-nazi Golden Dawn party, it is hardly surprising but today's acknowledgement by the
US Embassy in Athens of
"a rise in unprovoked harassment and violent attacks against persons who, because of their complexion, are perceived to be foreign migrants. U.S. citizens most at risk are those of African, Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern descent in Athens and other major cities"
certainly makes it a little more real for us sitting across the pond from this inferno.

[and takes] a
policy of zero tolerance to these events and take all necessary measures to prevent and suppress such behavior"
Police officer charged with mugging
A 31-year-old police special guard was arrested Friday on charges of stealing 1,200 euros at gunpoint from an Iranian national, while police also detained his suspected accomplice, a 29-year-old security firm employee.
According to reports, the latter is believed to be the perpetrator of another two armed muggings on immigrants in the same area. Police traced the 31-year-old and his alleged accomplice after the Iranian man reported the attack and gave a detailed description of the two men. |
