Did General Petraeus cheat on his mistress Paula Broadwell with a second mistress - and who is the second woman ( another willing journalist , a subordinate , a fem fatale , a russian spy ? Did Paula Broadwell hack Petraeus gmail account or was that done by someone else - apart from the second woman , who else got threatening emails ? How long did Broadwell have access to Petraeus's gmail account ? With one perhaps two lovers , a hacked gmail account used by Broadwell to send threatening emails to at least one individual in the name of Petraeus - how did the FBI conclude no security risk existed ? What else don't we know about General Petraeus ?

ABC Affiliate Ran Phony Cover of Broadwell Book

10:51 AM, NOV 13, 2012 • BY DANIEL HALPER
ABC's Denver affiliate is coming under fire for accidentally running a phony cover of Paula Broadwell's biography of General David Petraeus. The cover read, All Up In My Snatch. The real book title is All In.
Here's a screen grab:
A call placed the affiliate's assignment desk confirmed the unfortunate "mistake."
"That's correct," said the women working the assignment desk, confirming that the wrong book cover had been aired. "It was a mistake."
Here's video, via americablog.com:

On a more serious note , how is it that Broadwell's drivers license turned up in a park - was she doing some tradecraft with someone who needed to know who she was ? )

Paula Broadwell's License Discovered in D.C. Park

Police notify FBI -- Broadwell's attorney mum on her whereabouts

November 13, 2012 RSS Feed Print
The woman revealed to have been carrying on an affair with former CIA Director David Petraeus lost her driver's license in a Washington, D.C., park recently, sources tell U.S. News.
A Maryland National Capital Park Police spokesman confirmed that a jogger found a North Carolina license in Rock Creek Park belonging to Paula Broadwell. Park Police planned to hold it for 90 days, per policy, and then send it back to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The Park Police also alerted the FBI, says Bill Kellogg, a spokesman for the Park Police. The FBI did not initially return calls for comment on the report.
Broadwell's attorney, Robert F. Muse, confirmed that Broadwell, a North Carolina resident, lost her driver's license in the park.
The FBI searched Broadwell's Charlotte, N.C., home Monday for at least four hours. It is unclear if Broadwell was home at the time, though she is not mentioned in any subsequent reporting about the search.
Muse did not immediately return calls regarding Broadwell's current whereabouts.
Broadwell allegedly sent threatening E-mails to Jill Kelley, which sparked a subsequent FBI investigation, and eventually led to Petraeus' resignation from the CIA.

Petraeus Scandal Expands to Cabinet as Benghazi Ties Hinted

After Resigning in Disgrace, Petraeus 'Too Busy' to Testify

by Jason Ditz, November 12, 2012
Iraq Commander turned CENTCOM Commander turned Afghanistan Commander turned CIA Director David Petraeus spent the weekend unemployed, having resigned on Friday in the face of evidence he gave his girlfriend access to classified data.
But despite what one would figure is a wide open schedule, with his government career in tatters and his political future presumably dead, indications are that the “retired” general is “too busy” to testify on the September 11 attack on the Benghazi Consulate.
But the scandal surrounding both the literal and figurative Petraeus Affair continues to grow with or without him, and has even has a potential Benghazi link now, with the discovery that Petraeus’s girlfriend Paula Broadwell recently made a claim that the Benghazi attack was centered not on the consulate but on the CIA safehouse, which she insists was housing detainees.
The CIA denies this, but a claim that was totally ignored at the time because there was no reason to take Broadwell’s word for it, is getting a lot more attention now that it is known she had classified documents on her personal computer and could well have had inside access on the CIA’s info on the attack.
Broadwell’s classified data access is also having fallout beyond Petraeus now, with eyes turning on Attorney General Eric Holder, who knew about the investigation for months but reportedly kept it a secret until the end of the November 6 election, at which time he told DNI James Clapper, who advised Petraeus to resign.
There was already a lot of anger about the FBI not coming forward with information to Congress about the investigation as soon as it was apparent that there was a national security component, but if it turns out the Justice Department deliberately kept it under wraps to avoid any political fallout before the election, the scandal is even bigger.
And that could be the tip of the iceberg. If Broadwell’s claims about the CIA holding detainees in Benghazi also turns out to be true, that whole separate scandal is potentially far bigger, as keeping that secret, along with the administration’s already shaky history of truth-telling on Benghazi, could suggest there really was a cover-up in the wake of the attack on the consulate, that the Obama Administration lied about ending the use of CIA black sites, and got their own ambassador killed in doing so.
The possible fallout of all that, even coming after the presidential election, is virtually unfathomable, and as a part of the story continues to center on a sordid affair the real information about very really issues seems to be coming out as well.

Petraeus helps whistleblower's 'unstable' twin in nasty custody fight

  • Last Updated: 3:24 AM, November 13, 2012

Gen. David Petraeus sure loved helping his lady friends.
While he was director of the CIA, Petraeus wrote a letter supporting the child-custody fight of the “psychologically unstable” twin sister of his close friend Jill Kelley — whose bombshell claims of being threatened by his lover led to the top spy’s resignation last week, sources told The Post.
The four-star general’s letter to the court — written in the past two months — supported a motion to overturn a ruling made nearly a year earlier by a judge who resoundingly denied custody to Kelley’s sister, Natalie Khawam, because of serious reservations about her honesty and mental stability, court records show.
BUDDY SYSTEM: Natalie Khawam at a gathering with David Petraeus, who helped her with her child-custody fight.

BUDDY SYSTEM: Natalie Khawam at a gathering with David Petraeus, who helped her with her child-custody fight.

WOMAN TROUBLE: News of mistress Paula Broadwell (left) made David Petraeus’ wife, Holly (right), “furious,” while the CIA chief was revealed to have helped the third woman in the drama, Jill Kelley (above), with her sister’s divorce.
The letter was filed in DC Superior Court, where the father of Khawam’s 4-year-old son filed for divorce three years ago, two sources said. The status of the divorce was not immediately known.
Petraeus’ letter was filed as the FBI was investigating a complaint by Kelley, a 37-year-old, married Tampa, Fla., mom, that she was the target of anonymous e-mails warning her to “back off” and “stay away from my guy.”

The FBI determined the e-mails were written by Petraeus’ biographer — married mom of two Paula Broadwell, 40, who had allegedly engaged in a months-long affair with the also-married Petraeus before he supposedly broke it off four months ago.
Kelley then told Petraeus about the e-mails, The Washington Post said. He confronted Broadwell and told her to stop harassing Kelley, the report said.
Petraeus — who previously headed US military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan — resigned as head of the CIA Friday, after less than 15 months on the job.
Kelley, who has three children with surgeon Scott Kelley, is a “social liaison” to the military’s Joint Special Operations Command in Florida.
She and her husband have been friends with Petraeus and his wife, Holly, for more than five years.
Petraeus reportedly has told friends he never had a romantic relationship with Jill Kelley — although Broadwell clearly believed otherwise.

In other developments yesterday:
* FBI agents arrived at Broadwell’s Charlotte, NC, home last night and were seen carrying out computers and other items.
* Petraeus denied being the source of sensitive military information found on Broadwell’s computer, adding she must have gotten it from other commanders, The Associated Press said.
* The agent whom Kelley first told about the e-mails, and began the investigation, was taken off the case after his superiors learned he had sent her a photo of himself shirtless, The Wall Street Journal said.
* Broadwell and her husband, Scott, were enjoying a romantic weekend at a countryside Virginia bed & breakfast Friday when news broke of her affair with Petraeus, The Washingtonian magazine reported.
* Petraeus initially did not want to resign after being confronted by the FBI about the affair, but chose to once he realized it couldn’t stay secret any longer, The Washington Post said
* A former Petraeus spokesman described Holly, the general’s wife of 37 years, as “furious.”
“Well, as you can imagine, she’s not exactly pleased right now,” retired Army Col. Steve Boylan told ABC News. “In a conversation with David Petraeus this weekend, he said that ‘furious would be an understatement.’ ”
* The high-tech trickery Petraeus and Broadwell used to hide their affair was revealed. They wrote each other e-mails and, rather then sending them, left them in a draft folder for the other to read, the AP said. This prevented an easily followed e-mail trail.
Petraeus wrote his letter amid a bitter divorce and custody battle between Khawam and Grayson Wolfe, a partner in a DC-based private venture firm.

A judge in November 2011 gave Wolfe sole custody of the couple’s son after finding that Khawam, a lawyer, repeatedly lied under oath and filed bogus domestic-violence and child-abuse claims against her husband after their one-year marriage began crumbling in 2009.
That judge also found that Khawam routinely defied court orders to let the child see his dad and sent harassing e-mails to Wolfe’s friends and business partners that “excoriated Mr. Wolfe for being a horrible father and husband.”
The judge blasted Khawam for giving false evidence, and noted that a court-ordered shrink had found her domestic-violence allegations to be “part of an ever-expanding set of sensational accusations . . . that are so numerous, so extraordinary and [so] distorted that they defy any common-sense view of reality.”
The judge also noted that she “is a psychologically unstable person.”
Jill Kelley’s brother, David Khawam, responding to Broadwell’s apparent accusation that his sister was romantically involved with Petraeus, told The Post, “I think it’s a blatant lie, knowing my sister, that she would ever have an affair with anybody . . . What do they say? ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’? I would pray for [Broadwell].’’

FBI AGENTS REPORTEDLY RAID HOME OF PETRAEUS’ ALLEGED MISTRESS PAULA BROADWELL

FBI agents on Monday night raided the home of Paula Broadwell, the alleged mistress of former CIA director David Petraeus, WCNC reporter Dianne Gallagher reported via her official Twitter account.
Gallagher said “two men with briefcases just showed up to the Broadwell home… ran inside.” The reporter also said later “dozens of people” showed up to the home, carrying bags and boxes inside, possibly to gather evidence.
“FBI agents have been inside Paula Broadwell’s Dilworth home for about an hour now. About a dozen there, with bags/boxes, taking pics,” Gallagher added.

FBI Agent In Petraeus Case Removed After Allegedly Sending Shirtless Photos To The 'Other Woman' Jill Kelley

The FBI agent began the inquiry on behalf of a friend, Jill Kelley, who reportedly received about a half a dozen hostile emails from Petraeus' mistress Paula Broadwell.
The agent referred the matter to a cyber crimes unit but was prohibited from the any role in the investigation after the FBI found out that he sent shirtless photos of himself to Kelley, people familiar with the probe told The WSJ.

After being barred from the case, the agent contacted representative David Reichert (R-Wash.) out of concern that senior FBI officials were going to "sweep the matter under the rug," according to two officials familiar with the matter.

The WSJ also provides details about the emails sent from Broadwell to Kelley:

Ms. Broadwell allegedly used a variety of email addresses to send the harassing messages to Ms. Kelley, officials said.
One asked if Ms. Kelley's husband was aware of her actions, according to officials. In another, the anonymous writer claimed to have watched Ms. Kelley touching "him'' provocatively underneath a table, the officials said.
The new developments raise questions about how the FBI handled the case, The WSJ notes.

It’s absurd to think the FBI just found out about CIA Director Petraeus’ affair with Paula Broadwell, his biographer. The timing is too convenient.
photoPhoto: Hector Alejandro.
The FBI knew about the affair some time ago and, under strict orders, kept their mouths shut until just after Election Day. If they hadn’t, the scandal would have blown up during Obama’s campaign run.
During the period the FBI knew about Petraeus’ affair, they also knew he was completely vulnerable to blackmail. In FBI and CIA circles, to have done nothing about it is considered treasonous. Putting a gag on these FBI people had to been done by the White House.
The latest word is that Petraeus will not testify before Congress about what really happened in Benghazi. He “may be called” on the carpet at a future time, which could mean never.
His absence will help conceal details of the Chris Stevens murder and the build-up of US-sponsored terrorists in the Benghazi sector of Libya.

In fact, Petraeus’ initial statements to Congress, behind closed doors on September 14, led legislators to believe that absurd film trailer was the cause of the “uprising” at the house where Stevens was attacked and killed. Was the General’s ridiculous declaration made under orders from the White House, who had the blackmail goods on him?

Then, finally, on October 26th, Petraeus, perhaps fed up at how he was being used by the White House to provide cover for the president, stated: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need [in Bengazi]. Claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.”

In this whole scenario, we would be looking at a potential case of double blackmail. First by the White House, who knew of the affair sometime ago, and second, by whoever might have wrung CIA and military secrets out of Petraeus because they knew about his affair with Broadwell.

What does that make Paula Broadwell. In intelligence parlance, she would be a classic “honey trap.”
By circumstance, by accident, or on purpose?
She has a long military background. A graduate of West Point, she directed counter-terrorism studies at Tufts University. She worked with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. She is no innocent.
She very well knew that, during the time of their extended affair, Petraeus was vulnerable to any number of blackmail vectors. This did not make her waver.
She knew this wasn’t just some fling with a lieutenant colonel or even a run-of-the-mill general. Petraeus was head of all forces in the Afghanistan war. Then he was CIA director.
There are a lot of ways to write a biography that don’t involve sleeping with the subject and opening him up to blackmail at a very high level.
People from both sides of the aisle in Washington are expressing deep sorrow that an American hero had to resign. What nonsense. They’re building cover for Petraeus. They’re intentionally avoiding the question of what compromises he may have agreed to during his peak military service and intelligence directorship.

In Afghanistan, Petraeus was Obama’s choice to replace Stanley McChrystal, the general who blew his career during a Rolling Stone interview in which his men took pot shots at the president.

It is quite fair to ask whether Petraeus served as Obama’s man in Afghanistan under the unspoken but implied threat that, if there were any kerfuffles, any deviations, any criticisms of the White House Afghan policy, Petraeus’ affair would become public knowledge.

Despite claims by a friend that the affair with Broadwell began after Petraeus assumed leadership of the CIA, there is a strong possibility it started earlier, when Broadwell was “embedded” with the general in Afghanistan.

Was Paula Broadwell covertly working for the White House during her affair with Petraeus? Was she working for somebody else? Did she start out as an agent? Was she drawn into becoming one because she, too, as a married woman, was open to blackmail?
The public and the mainstream press, playing the part of “oh isn’t this too bad but of course nothing really serious or weird or compromising could have happened here,” doesn’t want to know how the spy game is actually played. They’d rather watch Jeopardy and pop Zoloft.
“Two people, both married, couldn’t resist a great passion. It happens. All of us make mistakes. We understand. Even great men can succumb. And she was obviously smitten. What a shame.”
Yeah. Sure.
Petraeus, the man, is now a legitimate target for serious questions. If he entered into the affair, knowing full well the blackmail it opened him up to, what is he all about? Where have his loyalties resided?
Some starry-eyed people will think asking about this is “impolite,” because, after all, “the man is an American hero.” Nonsense.
Then we have questions about Petraeus’ potential political career. The press went after him with all sorts of questions about what he might do in the 2012 election. The idea was out there. Could he run for president against Obama? Could he become the next Eisenhower?

If he had decided to make the move, he would have had a formidable number of supporters. But he adamantly said no. Was this a genuine expression of disinterest, or was Petraeus already compromised and under the thumb of the White House?

“All right, David, you’re gone from Afghanistan now. You’ve retired from the Army. The hero returns. Don’t get any ideas about running for president. You know what we know about you. By the way, the director of Central Intelligence is open. How would you like that job?”

“Oh no,” people say. “This kind of thing would never happen.”

Really? What kind of world do you think Washington is? The Peace Corp with martini lunches? The Unitarian Church with occasional brandies and cigars?
Remember Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s famous remark when she was asked about the devastation the US was wreaking in Iraq through its economic sanctions?
May 12, 1996, 60 Minutes. Lesley Stahl says: “We have heard that half a million [Iraqi] children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?”
Albright: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price—we think the price is worth it.”
Now that’s the real world of Washington, once the PR people get out of the way.
Blackmail of a famous general, a director of the CIA? That’s nothing.
A famous general falling under the power of blackmail? A general who knows some of the deep dark secrets about Dope Inc., the trillion-dollar opium growing operation in Afghanistan, a general whose troops have helped to restore the planting of the poppies there? A general who knows about the longed-for oil pipeline running through Afghanistan and the various persons whom it will benefit?
Could Petraeus have been a target for all manner of blackmail mounted by numerous parties?
Is the Pope Catholic?

( So , who gave Paula classified documents ? how about putting Paula and the General under polygraphs ? )

The FBI has been investigating Paula Broadwell, former CIA director David Petraeus' biographer and reported mistress, for months, citing concerns about classified information and a potential national security breach.
Well, it turns out that during the FBI's investigation, the bureau did find classified documents on Broadwell's computer, reports the Wall Street Journal.
In September, the FBI began to do a legal analysis to see if there were any charges that could be brought. They decided to interview Broadwell.
During her first interview, she admitted that she was having an affair with Petraeus and gave up her computer to the investigators.

On it, they found classified documents.
Petraeus was interviewed too, and he admitted to the affair as well. However, he said that he did not provide Broadwell with those classified documents. Broadwell echoed Petraeus' claims in her next interview with investigators in early November.
The source of the classified documents remains unclear.

WND EXCLUSIVE

DID PETRAEUS MISTRESS REVEAL SECRET CIA PRISON?

Paula Broadwell may have divulged new information on Benghazi scandal

Paula Broadwell

TEL AVIV – Did Paula Broadwell, the alleged mistress of ex-CIA Director David Petraeus, reveal a secret CIA detention center in Benghazi during a public speech she gave last month?

Broadwell, a former counterterror operative, co-authored a bestselling biography of Petraeus, titled “All In.” She discussed the book during a keynote speech on  Oct. 26 at a University of Denver alumni symposium. The speech is available in full on YouTube.
During a question-and-answer session, Broadwell was asked about this year’s Sept. 11 attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi.
She stated: “Now I don’t know if a lot of you heard this, but the CIA annex had actually had taken a couple of Libya militia members prisoner. And they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try to get these prisoners back. So that’s still being vetted.”
The existence of a U.S. prison or CIA detention center in Benghazi would be a new development in the debate surrounding the attacks there. The information does not appear to be publicly known.

An extensive WND search of news media coverage of the Benghazi attacks could find no mention of prisoners being held at the CIA annex.
Yesterday, the New York Times reported that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor spoke to an FBI whistleblower two weeks ago who accused Petraeus of not only having an extramarital affair, but potentially jeopardizing the security of classified information.
During the same university speech, Broadwell may have also divulged information that Petraeus knew “within 24 hours” of CIA annex’s request for reinforcements, reported Israel National News.
“The challenging thing for Gen. Petraeus,” she stated, “is that in his new position, he’s not allowed to communicate with the press. So he’s known all of this – they had correspondence with the CIA station chief in Libya, within 24 hours they kind of knew what was happening.”
Earlier she had said the military could have sent reinforcements.
“They were requesting the – it’s called the C-in-C’s In Extremis Force – a group of Delta Force operators, our very, most talented guys we have in the military. They could have come and reinforced the consulate and the CIA annex.”

Broadwell: Petraeus Knew of Benghazi Plea for Help

Writer allegedly involved with ex-CIA chief said he knew "within 24 hours" of CIA annex's request for reinforcements.

Military expert Paula Broadwell, who was allegedly improperly involved with resigned CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus, confirmed in October that the CIA annex in Benghazi asked for reinforcements when the consulate came under attack on September 11. She also acknowledged that "there was a failure in the system."
Broadwell was speaking at her alma mater, the University of Denver, on October 26. Her lecture, which is on YouTube under the title "Alumni Symposium 2012 Paula Broadwell," now has added value, because based on the recent disclosures, it can now be assumed that she indeed knew exactly what it was that Petraeus knew about the attack.
Broadwell confirmed the reports on Fox News that the CIA annex asked for a special unit, the Commander in Chief's In Extremis Force, to come and assist it. She also said that the force could indeed have reinforced the consulate, and that Petraeus knew all of this, but was not allowed to talk to the press because of his position in the CIA.
"The challenge has been the fog of war, and the greater challenge is that it's political hunting season, and so this whole thing has been turned into a very political sort of arena, if you will," she said. "The fact that came out today is that the ground forces there at the CIA annex, which is different from the consulate, were requesting reinforcements.
"They were requesting the – it's called the C-in-C's In Extremis Force – a group of Delta Force operators, our very, most talented guys we have in the military. They could have come and reinforced the consulate and the CIA annex. Now, I don't know if a lot of you have heard this but the CIA annex had actually taken a couple of Libyan militia members prisoner, and they think that the attack on the consulate was an attempt to get these prisoners back. It's still being vetted.
"The challenging thing for Gen. Petraeus is that in his new position, he's not allowed to communicate with the press. So he's known all of this – they had correspondence with the CIA station chief in Libya, within 24 hours they kind of knew what was happening."
Broadwell did give some support to the administration, however, for its initial version of events, which tied the consulate attack to protests in the Muslim world.
"If you remember at the time, the Muslim video, the Mohammed video that came out, the demonstrations that were going on in Cairo, there were demonstrations in 22 other countries around the world, tens of thousands of people, and our government was very concerned that this was going to become a nightmare for us," she said.
"So you can understand if you put yourselves in his shoes or Secretary Clinton's shoes or the President's shoes, that we thought it was tied somehow to the demonstrations in Cairo. And it's true that we have signal intelligence that shows the militia members in Libya were watching the demonstration in Cairo, and it did sort of galvanize their effort. So we'll find out the facts soon enough.
"As a former intel officer it's frustrating to me because it reveals our sources and methods, I don't think the public necessarily needs to know all of that. It is a tragedy that we lost an ambassador and two other government officials, and [...] there was a failure in the system because there was additional security requested, but it's frustrating to see the sort of political aspect of what's going on with this whole investigation."

  • Details of Petraeus' affair with Broadwell emerged when she allegedly sent threatening messages to Jill Kelley - a state department military liaison
  • The FBI was contacted by the recipient - and the emails were tracked to Paula Broadwell - who by then had been involved with Petraeus
  • Friend says that Broadwell is 'not the type' to carry on an affair
  • Through their investigation, Federal agents discovered that the general had shared explicit emails with Broadwell

This is the woman who complained to the FBI about harassing emails from the mistress of Gen David Petraeus.
Jill Kelley, 37, of Tampa, Florida, is a State Department military liaison officer who appears to have a longstanding friendship with Petraeus, who quit as CIA director in disgrace last week.
Ms Kelley lives in a $1.2million house with her husband Scott, a surgeon, and their three children.
She told agents that Paula Broadwell, the 40-year-old biographer who has been identified as the ex-CIA boss' mistress, sent her harassing emails telling her to 'back off' Petraeus.
An online picture album posted by the family talks about meeting Gen Petraeus at the family's home.
There was no answer at the home tonight when called by MailOnline.
Ms Kelley works in the Joint Special Operations Command, a section of the U.S. Armed Forces that deals mostly with counter-terrorism.
The Joint Special Ops Command was directly involved in the mission that took out Osama bin Laden and the drone strike that killed radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.

Details of the affair between Petraeus and Broadwell reportedly came to light during a FBI probe of the emails that she allegedly sent to Ms Kelley.

The new revelation raises the possibility that Broadwell was growing increasingly jealous of a government employee whose job it was to keep in contact with Petraeus.

Ms Kelley, who feared for her safety, contacted the FBI.
A government official told the New York Post that the emails contained such language as: 'I know what you did,' 'back off' and 'stay away from my guy.'
The official added: '[Broadwell] clearly thought something was going on' and thought she was in a 'lovers triangle.'
A person who knows both Ms Kelley and Petraeus confirmed their friendship and said she saw him often.

Petraeus broke off the steamy affair with Broadwell before it was exposed by the FBI probe, according to friends of the retired general.

He quit his post as CIA director on Friday while offering an apology over the affair.
His apology came as reports show that the affair blew up in Petraeus' face after Broadwell allegedly sent the emails threatening Ms Kelley.
Kelley and her twin sister Natalie appeared in a 2003 Food Network competition that pitted two sets of twins against each other in the kitchen.
Petraeus told friends that he had begun the affair with Broadwell shortly after he had left the Army to begin his work with the CIA, according to ABC News.

Those close to Broadwell are casting doubt over what she has been accused of.
David Bixler, a wounded soldier who met Broadwell through a charity in 2010, told ABC: 'I have some serious questions about who is connecting these dots... Paula Broadwell is not the type... she isn't.'
Ed Williams, a neighbor who lives two houses down from the Broadwell family in Charlotte, North Carolina, neighborhood, told Reuters: 'Everyone is surprised and shocked.'
Earlier in the week, Williams, a retired editor, saw Broadwell with her two children when she was voting in last week's U.S. presidential election.

He told Reuters that Broadwell appeared chatty and cheerful. Neighbors were working on putting together a belated party to celebrate the release of her book.
'She gave no indication all this was going on,' Williams said.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Broadwell had shown up on the CIA radar before over working over concerns about what she was putting on her Facebook page.
The Tribune reported that there had been concerns about whether Broadwell was giving away sensitive security information in her posts.
Broadwell, who is married with two young sons, has not responded to multiple emails and phone messages.
She had planned to celebrate her 40th birthday in Washington this weekend, with many reporters invited. Her husband Scott emailed guests to cancel the party.

It is also claimed that Broadwell used Petraeus' own Gmail account to send the emails, and when the FBI began to investigate an obvious national security issue instead uncovered explicit messages between the two sent from the decorated war hero's own account - indicating an affair.
Three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the case told the Washington Post that when Petraeus' name was raised in connection with the threatening emails, the FBI thought that security had been breached.
CIA officers long had expressed concern about Broadwell's unprecedented access to the director.
She frequently visited the spy agency's headquarters in Langley, Virginia, to meet Petraeus in his office, accompanied him on morning runs around the CIA grounds and often attended public functions as his guest, according to two ex-intelligence officials.
Investigating the threatening messages, FBI agents uncovered evidence that he and 40-year-old Broadwell were involved in an extramarital affair.
FBI investigators first interviewed Petraeus about what they had found two weeks ago and informed him that no criminal charges would be brought and no-one is thought to have discussed the possibility of his resignation.

But, according to the Washington Post, after an investigation Justice Department officials were unclear what to do next, because no crime had occurred nor breach of security.
They contacted James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence and told him they had compromising material about Petraeus.
Clapper in turn spoke to Petraeus and advised him to resign.
'Director Clapper learned of the situation from the FBI on Tuesday evening around 5pm,' the intelligence official said to the Washington Post.
'In subsequent conversations with Director Petraeus, Director Clapper advised Director Petraeus to resign.'
Director Clapper also added that he did not see the need for an internal investigation by the CIA, citing it as 'a very personal matter, not a matter of intelligence.'
On Wednesday evening, Clapper went to the White House and on Thursday morning President Obama was informed.

Later on Thursday, Petraeus arrived to see the President and offered his resignation, which was accepted on Friday.
The Washington Post also reported that in an email message to a friend, Petraeus apologized for his actions.
'He was deeply sorry for the pain he has caused his family,' the friend said.
'He also noted how much he loved his job at the agency. He said he really relished the intellectual challenge there.'
Broadwell did not respond to voice mail or email messages seeking comment. Broadwell's biography, 'All In: The Education of General David Petraeus,' was written with Vernon Loeb, a Washington Post editor, and published in January.

Lawmakers from both parties joined Obama in praising Petraeus.
Obama said in a statement that Petraeus had provided 'extraordinary service to the United States for decades' and had given a lifetime of service that 'made our country safer and stronger.'
CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell will serve as acting director, Obama said. Morell was the key CIA aide in the White House to President George W. Bush during the 9/11 attacks.
'I am completely confident that the CIA will continue to thrive and carry out its essential mission,' Obama said.
The resignation comes at a sensitive time.
The administration and the CIA have struggled to defend security and intelligence lapses before the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three others.

It was an issue during the presidential campaign that ended with Obama's re-election Tuesday.
The CIA has come under intense scrutiny for providing the White House and other administration officials with talking points that led them to say the Benghazi attack was a result of a film protest, not a militant terror attack.
It has become clear that the CIA was aware the attack was distinct from the film protests roiling across other parts of the Muslim world.
Morell rather than Petraeus now is expected to testify at closed congressional briefings next week on the assault on the consulate in Benghazi, which occurred on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Petraeus, who turned 60 on Wednesday, has been married for 38 years to Holly Petraeus, whom he met when he was a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
She was the daughter of the academy superintendent. They have two children, and their son led an infantry platoon in Afghanistan.

The retired general told his staffers in a statement that he was guilty of 'extremely poor judgment' in engaging in the affair. 'Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours.'
At FBI headquarters, spokesman Paul Bresson declined to comment on the information that the affair had been discovered in the course of an investigation by the bureau.
Petraeus, who became CIA director in September 2011, was known as a shrewd thinker and hard-charging competitor.
His management style was recently lauded in a Newsweek article by Broadwell.
The article listed Petraeus' 'rules for living.' No. 5 was: 'We all make mistakes. The key is to recognize them, to learn from them, and to take off the rear view mirrors - drive on and avoid making them again.'
Petraeus, in his email, told his CIA employees that he treasured his work with them 'and I will always regret the circumstances that brought that work with you to an end.'

The director of national intelligence, James Clapper, said Petraeus' departure represented 'the loss of one of our nation's most respected public servants.

From his long, illustrious Army career to his leadership at the helm of CIA, Dave has redefined what it means to serve and sacrifice for one's country.'

Other CIA directors have resigned under unflattering circumstances. CIA Director Jim Woolsey left over the discovery of a KGB mole, and director John Deutch left after the revelation that he had kept classified information on his home computer.

Before Obama brought Petraeus to the CIA, he was credited with salvaging the U.S. war in Iraq.

'His inspirational leadership and his genius were directly responsible - after years of failure - for the success of the surge in Iraq,' Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said Friday.
President George W. Bush sent Petraeus to Iraq in February 2007, at the peak of sectarian violence, to turn things around as head of U.S. forces.
He oversaw an influx of 30,000 U.S. troops and moved troops out of big bases so they could work more closely with Iraqi forces scattered throughout Baghdad.
Petraeus' success was credited with paving the way for the eventual U.S. withdrawal.

In what could be a delicious irony it is being reported the career of CIA Director David Petraeus may have imploded after the woman who he was having an affair with sent threatening e-mails to another woman she suspected of being too close to him.
In fact the as-yet unidentified woman could be the key to the entire scandal unfolding after it was claimed she contacted the FBI for protection after receiving frightening emails and agents traced the threats to Paula Broadwell.
However, it is claimed that Broadwell was using Petraeus’ own Gmail account to send the emails and when the FBI began to investigate an obvious national security issue instead uncovered explicit messages between the two sent from the decorated war hero’s own account – indicating an affair.
