Mr Blowback rising in Benghazi
By Pepe Escobar
"Daddy, what is blowback?"
Here's a fable to tell our children, by the fire, in a not so-distant post-apocalyptic, dystopian future.
Once upon a time, during George "Dubya" Bush's "war on terra", the Forces of Good in Afghanistan captured - and duly tortured - one evil terrorist, Abu Yahya al-Libi.
Abu Yahya al-Libi was, of course, Libyan. He slaved three years in the bowels of Bagram prison near Kabul, but somehow managed to escape that supposedly impregnable fortress in July 2005.
At the time, the Forces of Good were merrily in bed with ColonelMuammar Gaddafi in Libya - whose intelligence services, to the delight of the Bush administration, were doing their nastiest to exterminate or at least isolate al-Qaeda-style Salafi-jihadis of the al-Libi kind.
But, then, in 2011, the Forces of Good, under new administration, decided it was time to bury the oh so passe "war on terra" and dance to a new, more popular groove; humanitarian intervention, also characterized as "kinetic military action".
So al-Libi was back from the dead - now fighting side by side with the Forces of Good to topple (and eventually snuff out) "evil" Col Gaddafi. Al-Libi had become a "freedom fighter" - even though he was openly calling for Libya to become an Islamic Emirate.
The honeymoon didn't last long.
In September 2012, for the first time in three months, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, aka The Surgeon, released a 42-minute video special to "celebrate" the 11th anniversary of 9/11, finally admitting the snuffing out of his number two.
His number two was none other than Abu Yahya al-Libi - targeted by one of US President Barack Obama's cherished drones in Waziristan on June 4.
An immediate effect of al-Zawahiri's video was that an angry armed mob, led by Islamist outfit Ansar al Sharia, set fire to the US consulate in Benghazi. The US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, was killed. It didn't matter that Stevens happened to be a hero of the "NATO rebels" who had "liberated" Libya - notoriously sprinkled with Salafi-jihadis of the al-Libi kind.
Stevens was rewarded by Washington with the ambassadorial post only after "evil" Gaddafi was finally sodomized, lynched and killed by, what else, an angry mob. So finally the blowback serpent was able to bite its own tail.
Terra, terra, terra
What happened in Benghazi may have been just an out-of-control protest against a crude, amateur, made-in-California movie produced and directed by an Israeli-American real estate developer and certified Islamophobe (an identity now being reported as a guise), financed with US$5 million from unidentified Jewish donors, depicting Islam "as a cancer" and Prophet Muhammad as a womanizer, a pedophile and most of all, a fraud. The movie was duly promoted by wacko Florida pastor and Koran-burning freak Terry Jones.
Yet the killing of the US ambassador in Libya is just an hors d'oeuvre to what may happen in Syria - where scores of "freedom fighters" supported by the CIA, the Turks and the House of Saud are al-Qaeda-linked, either via the supposedly reformist Libya Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) or acronym-infested subcontracting gangs such as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) or al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM).
So how will Washington "bring the perpetrators to justice" in Libya? After all this is the same gang that was hailed as "heroes" when they sodomized, lynched and snuffed out "evil" Gaddafi.
Asia Times Online has been warning for over a year about blowback in Libya - and potentially in Syria, where medieval Saudi sheikhs frantically issue fatwas legitimating a widespread massacre of "infidel" Alawites. This is all a rerun of the same old 1980s' Afghan jihad movie; first you call them "freedom fighters", but when they attack us they revert to being "terrorists".
Now we have NATO-armed Salafi-jihadis in Libya, and House of Saud-financed and Turkey-based Salafi-jihadis in Syria - deploying "terra" antics such as suicide bombers to bring down the Assad regime - all wired up and ready to roll. It certainly adds a new meaning to Obama's "kinetic action" gig. Blowback - as in Afghanistan - might have taken years. This time Mr Blowback reared its ugly head in only a few months. And that's just the beginning.
So what now? Who're you gonna bomb? Who're you gonna drone to death? What about bombing Benghazi a year after condemning Gaddafi to death because he might have threatened to ... bomb Benghazi?
Ask US Secretary of State Hillary "We came, he saw, he died" Clinton, who claims to talk on behalf of the "Libyan people". Maybe she will come up with a policy of retroactively aligning the US with Gaddafi.
And since this is an electoral year, why not ask invisible former president Bush himself? After all, he proclaimed on September 20, 2001 that "either you are with us, or you are with the terra-rists."
Well, Mr Blowback would say, beware of what you get when you are in bed with the terra-rists.

The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach,The Independent can reveal.
American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.
The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".
Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.
According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.
Mr Stevens had been on a visit to Germany, Austria and Sweden and had just returned to Libya when the Benghazi trip took place with the US embassy's security staff deciding that the trip could be undertaken safely.
Eight Americans, some from the military, were wounded in the attack which claimed the lives of Mr Stevens, Sean Smith, an information officer, and two US Marines. All staff from Benghazi have now been moved to the capital, Tripoli, and those whose work is deemed to be non-essential may be flown out of Libya.
In the meantime a Marine Corps FAST Anti-Terrorism Reaction Team has already arrived in the country from a base in Spain and other personnel are believed to be on the way. Additional units have been put on standby to move to other states where their presence may be needed in the outbreak of anti-American fury triggered by publicity about a film which demeaned the Prophet Mohamed.
A mob of several hundred stormed the US embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa yesterday. Other missions which have been put on special alert include almost all those in the Middle East, as well as in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Burundi and Zambia.
Senior officials are increasingly convinced, however, that the ferocious nature of the Benghazi attack, in which rocket-propelled grenades were used, indicated it was not the result of spontaneous anger due to the video, called Innocence of Muslims. Patrick Kennedy, Under-Secretary at the State Department, said he was convinced the assault was planned due to its extensive nature and the proliferation of weapons.
There is growing belief that the attack was in revenge for the killing in a drone strike in Pakistan of Mohammed Hassan Qaed, an al-Qa'ida operative who was, as his nom-de-guerre Abu Yahya al-Libi suggests, from Libya, and timed for the anniversary of the 11 September attacks.
Senator Bill Nelson, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said: "I am asking my colleagues on the committee to immediately investigate what role al-Qa'ida or its affiliates may have played in the attack and to take appropriate action."
According to security sources the consulate had been given a "health check" in preparation for any violence connected to the 9/11 anniversary. In the event, the perimeter was breached within 15 minutes of an angry crowd starting to attack it at around 10pm on Tuesday night. There was, according to witnesses, little defence put up by the 30 or more local guards meant to protect the staff. Ali Fetori, a 59-year-old accountant who lives near by, said: "The security people just all ran away and the people in charge were the young men with guns and bombs."
Wissam Buhmeid, the commander of the Tripoli government-sanctioned Libya's Shield Brigade, effectively a police force for Benghazi, maintained that it was anger over the Mohamed video which made the guards abandon their post. "There were definitely people from the security forces who let the attack happen because they were themselves offended by the film; they would absolutely put their loyalty to the Prophet over the consulate. The deaths are all nothing compared to insulting the Prophet."
Mr Stevens, it is believed, was left in the building by the rest of the staff after they failed to find him in dense smoke caused by a blaze which had engulfed the building. He was discovered lying unconscious by local people and taken to a hospital, the Benghazi Medical Centre, where, according to a doctor, Ziad Abu Ziad, he died from smoke inhalation.
An eight-strong American rescue team was sent from Tripoli and taken by troops under Captain Fathi al- Obeidi, of the February 17 Brigade, to the secret safe house to extract around 40 US staff. The building then came under fire from heavy weapons. "I don't know how they found the place to carry out the attack. It was planned, the accuracy with which the mortars hit us was too good for any ordinary revolutionaries," said Captain Obeidi. "It began to rain down on us, about six mortars fell directly on the path to the villa."
Libyan reinforcements eventually arrived, and the attack ended. News had arrived of Mr Stevens, and his body was picked up from the hospital and taken back to Tripoli with the other dead and the survivors.
Mr Stevens' mother, Mary Commanday, spoke of her son yesterday. "He did love what he did, and he did a very good job with it. He could have done a lot of other things, but this was his passion. I have a hole in my heart," she said.
Global anger: The protests spread
Yemen
The furore across the Middle East over the controversial film about the Prophet Mohamed is now threatening to get out of control. In Sana'a, the Yemeni capital, yesterday around 5,000 demonstrators attacked the US embassy, leaving at least 15 people injured. Young protesters, shouted: "We sacrifice ourselves for you, Messenger of God," smashed windows of the security offices and burned at least five cars, witnesses said.
Egypt
Egypt's Islamist President Mohamed Morsi yesterday condemned the attack in Benghazi that killed the US ambassador. In a speech in Brussels, Mr Morsi said he had spoken to President Obama and condemned "in the clearest terms" the Tuesday attacks. Despite this, and possibly playing to a domestic audience, President Obama said yesterday that "I don't think we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy".
Demonstrators in Cairo attacked the mission on Tuesday evening and protests have continued since.

When I began writing this post, no one seemed to know the real identity of the mysterious auteur of “Innocence of Muslims.” After telling the Wall Street Journal that “Islam is a cancer” in a phone interview, he dropped off the face of the earth. The actors and crew say they had no idea what they were getting into and that some of their lines were redubbed. The Christian hate group leader Steve Klein, who was involved in the promotion of the movie, told various people in the media that Bacile was an Israeli Jew and that 100 Jewish donors provided his financing. The Koran-burner Terry Jones says he only spoke to Bacile on the telephone, but he knew that it wasn’t his real name. The anti-Islam activistMorris Sadek, who promoted the movie with an Arabic language blog post, has yet to make a statement.
You’d have to be crazy not to suspect that this is a plot to stir up violence in the Middle East on the eve of the US presidential election, but who put all its pieces together? Karl Popper defined the “conspiracy theory of society” as “the view that an explanation of a social phenomenon consists in the discovery of the men or groups who are interested in the occurrence of this phenomenon…and who have planned and conspired to bring it about.” Much of the speculation about the identity of the plotters is already following those lines. Obviously, there is more than one idea about who stands to gain the most, and thus a real conspiracy is already becoming something of a Rorschach test for conspiracy theorists.
Debbie Schlussel’s virulently anti-Islamic blog points to an Arab plot against Jews, Christians, and the anti-Islamic movement:
This alleged ‘Israeli Jew’–who at the same time is also allegedly a ‘Coptic Christian’–was a fake, a liar, and probably a plant designed to spur some predictable Muslim violence against America (violence that happens on the part of Muslims every single day without an alleged fake movie plot). And, along with that, I felt the plot was meant to spur anti-Semitism and discredit those of us with legitimate concerns about the Islamic threat….I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but as I said earlier today, I wouldn’t be surprised if Muslim money was behind this to discredit Americans, Jews, and Christians in one fell swoop or to unite people against Jews or those who expose the real Islamic threat to America. Could it be Iran? Ya never know.Cannonfire points instead to Mossad–and sees Iran as the object of the conspiracy, not its mastermind:You would have to be a child not to understand what’s really going on here. This is the most obvious psyop conspiracy I’ve ever seen.Neocons in America and Israel concocted this plot long ago. I would stake my life on it.We can state with the certainty of a geometrical proof that Sam Bacile is a Mossad asset — a “sayan” — and that he did what he did under orders, not of his own initiative. The motive is transparent: Likudniks want the United States to attack Iran, and they know that Obama won’t do it. Romney will. He has made that point very clear. Thus, Israeli war hawks concocted a plan to make sure Romney gets into office. The conspirators made this film for the express purpose of provoking a violent reaction, which would, in turn give the Republicans a political cudgel to wield against the president.I do not doubt for a second the presence of provocateurs on the ground in Cairo and Libya. (How did they even know about the YouTube clip?) I also believe that this plan would have remained “on hold” if Romney had attained a comfortable lead.I’m pretty sure that CIA had nothing to do with this. Only Israeli intelligence is so reckless.By the time I got to this paragraph, the AP had confirmed Bacile’s real identity. He is a 55-year-old Coptic Christian named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who has been convicted of bank fraud. Whether he is one of the plot’s chief authors or just its front man (or patsy, as some conspiracy theorists are likely to insist), his story is certain to be fascinating.

Following Consulate Attack
It's possible some of the same rebel militias the US helped oust Gadhafi have now turned their sights on the US
presence in Libya
by John Glaser, September 12, 2012
In response to the attack on the US consulate building in Libya on Tuesday night, now widely considered to have been planned by al-Qaeda, the Obama administration has ordered drones to fly over the country, additional US Marines to guard diplomatic buildings, and warships to the Libyan coast.
The administration on Wednesday announced sending drones to fly over Benghazi and other locations in eastern Libya in search of jihadi encampments that may have been involved in the attack, which killed four Americans. The fact that additional US Marines and warships, which carry Tomahawk missiles, have been included in the reaction could spell airstrikes in the near future.
These policies, as well as an extensive FBI investigation into the incident, appear to be the beginnings of what CBS News called “a terrorist hunt in Libya, as evidence mounts assault was perpetrated by al-Qaeda affiliates in Libya.
Al-Qaeda’s resurgence in Libya came as a direct result of the US-led NATO mission there which unseated former dictator Muammar Gadhafi and left a dangerous power vacuum in the country. It’s possible that some of the same rebel militias the US assisted in ousting Gadhafi have now used their renewed prominence against Washington’s interests in Libya.
so , we put Al Qaeda in charge of Libya and we are shocked , shocked that we have been attacked by Al Qaeda - by the way , if we attack unilaterally alleged terrorists in Libya with drones , Special Force troops and / or warships , are we back at war with Libya ? Congress - are you awake ?

The American Dream
Sept 13, 2012
Many of us tried to warn Barack Obama that using militants from al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations to overthrow governments in the Middle East would not end well.

The Obama administration has been so determined to get rid of some of these dictators in the Middle East that they have not even really stopped to think about who would be replacing them. Our leaders assured us that those opposed to Mubarak and Gaddafi were “freedom fighters” that just wanted “liberty” and “democracy” in those countries. Well, of course it turns out that the folks that took control of both Egypt and Libya bear no resemblance to George Washington whatsoever. They have simply replaced one form of tyranny with an even worse form of tyranny. Sadly, the last couple of days have been a huge wake up call for all of us. Radical Islamic militants stormed the U.S. embassy in Cairo, Egypt and replaced the American flag with the al-Qaeda flag. In Benghazi, Libya the U.S. consulate was attacked by a crowd equipped with guns, homemade bombs and rocket-propelled grenades. They torched the consulate, looted it, and killed the U.S. ambassador and three other U.S. officials. Apparently they are not as grateful for our help in “liberating” their homelands as the Obama administration thought they would be. Unfortunately, our politicians fundamentally misunderstand what is going on in the Middle East, and this is going to continue to lead to more policy errors.
For years, our politicians told us that “al-Qaeda” was the big enemy in the “War on Terror”.
But then during the “Arab Spring” the U.S. government was openly working with “al-Qaeda” and a bunch of other similar organizations all over the Middle East to overthrow established governments.
To say that our approach to the Middle East has been “inconsistent” would be a massive understatement.
After the protesters stormed the U.S. embassy in Cairo, they made it very clear who they are aligned with. They tore down the U.S. flag and desecrated it, and they put up a black Islamic flag in its place.
So what did the black flag have on it? The following is how CNN described the flag….
The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, “There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger,” an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.
This is very reminiscent of what happened in Libya in the days after the toppling of Gaddafi. At the time, the Daily Mail and other international media organizations posted pictures of the black al-Qaeda flag flying high and proud over the courthouse in Benghazi….
The black flag of Al Qaeda was hoisted in Libya yesterday as Nato formally ended its military campaign. The standard fluttered from the roof of the courthouse in Benghazi, where the country’s new rulers have imposed sharia law since seizing power.
Today, the new government in Egypt is completely dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood. They hold 47 percent of the seats in parliament and the new president of Egypt belongs to the organization.
So how are they responding to this incident?
Well, they have issued a half-hearted condemnation of the attacks in English, and they have also announced that new protests against the anti-Islam film that originally sparked the violence will be held in Tahrir Square on Friday.
I’m sure that a new round of mass protests will definitely calm everyone down.
Or not.
Hopefully the U.S. embassy in Egypt will have significantly strengthened security by Friday.
In Libya, the U.S. consulate has been essentially destroyed.
You can see pictures of what the U.S. consulate in Benghazi looks like after the attack right here.
Looters took off with whatever they were able to carry. Reporters saw some people carrying desks, chairs and even washing machines away from the consulate.
The U.S. ambassador, Chris Stevens, was killed along with three other U.S. officials.
You can see a photo of an unconscious Stevens being carried through the streets after the attack right here.
So who was responsible for the attack?
Once again, it appears to have been Islamic radicals associated with al-Qaeda. The following is from a Reuters article about this incident….
The attack was believed to have been carried out by Ansar al-Sharia, an al Qaeda-style Sunni Islamist group that has been active in Benghazi, a Libyan security official said. Witnesses said the mob also included tribesmen, militia and other gunmen.Ansar al-Sharia cars arrived at the start of the protest but left once fighting started, Hamam said. “The protesters were running around the compound just looking for Americans, they just wanted to find an American so they could catch one.”
Most Americans thought that it was a good idea for the Obama administration to back “the rebels” that were fighting to overthrow Gaddafi, but perhaps more people should have been asking what those “rebels” actually stand for.
The following is what former CIA officer Bruce Riedel once said about the composition of the fighters that were attempting to overthrow Gaddafi….
“There is no question that al-Qaida’s Libyan franchise, Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, is a part of the opposition. It has always been Gadhafi’s biggest enemy and its stronghold is Benghazi. What is unclear is how much of the opposition is al-Qaida/Libyan Islamic Fighting Group – 2 percent or 80 percent.”
The leader of the Libyan rebel forces even admitted that some of the very same militants that were shooting at U.S. troops in Iraq were among those that were seeking to “liberate” Libya. The following is from a 2011 article in the Telegraph….
Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.
You can find much more on the link between al-Qaeda and the rebel forces in Libya right here.
So we were shooting at them in Iraq but we supplied them with weapons and gave them air support in Libya?
What kind of nonsense is that?
The truth is that the U.S. government has absolutely no idea what it is doing in the Middle East.
And it looks like more trouble is ahead.
There were other anti-U.S. protests in Sudan, the Gaza Strip and Tunisia on Wednesday.
Sadly, even the top officials in our own government fail to grasp why these militants hate us. In response to the torching of the consulate in Benghazi, Hillary Clinton asked the following question….
“Today, many Americans are asking, indeed I ask myself … How could this happen in a country we helped liberate in a city we helped save from destruction?”
And of course foreign policy has never been a point of emphasis for Barack Obama.
In fact, it has been reported that he skips more than half of his daily intelligence meetings.
So the blind are leading the blind and we continue to make mistake after mistake in the Middle East.
When will we ever learn?

12.56 German emergency services have evacuated the visa section of the United States consulate in Berlin after an employee fell ill after opening a suspicious envelope that was handed to her by a visitor, a police spokesman said. It was clear whether the incident was linked to protests over the ant-Islam film that was made in America.
Television footage showed investigators in special protection suits at the building and staff waiting outside.
"The lady felt unwell and reported a metallic taste in her mouth," the police spokesman said.
A spokesman for the fire services, who were also at the scene, said three people had reported breathing difficulties.
The US embassy could not immediately be reached for comment.
12.44 The Afghan authorities have ordered that YouTube be shut down indefinitely to prevent people watching the anti-Muslim film, hovernment sources have told Reuters.
12.42 A Yemeni protester has reportedly been shot dead outside the US embassy.
11.50 Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani said the film, Innocence of Muslims was "abhorrent", according to a report in state-controlled Pres TV. He reportedly added:
US politicians' claims of supporting and respecting different cultures are ... a blatant lie.
11.47 Iranian students were protesting outside the Swiss embassy inTehran. Additional security forces were deployed around the embassy, which looks after U.S. interests in Iran where Washington has no diplomatic relations, Fars news agency reported. It gave no estimate of the size of the protest.
Members of one student organisation present called on Muslim nations to "cut their relations with the United States and demonstrate their religious values against the colonial system", Fars said.
Protesters expressed support for demonstrators in Libya and Egypt, shouting slogans including "Muslims unite" and "Mohammad is God's prophet," the report said.

Blowback Blows Up - US Embassy In Yemen Stormed
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/13/2012 06:51 -0400
Anti-American violence and hatred is spreading: first Egypt, then Libya, with very tragic consequences, now Yemen. From Reuters: "Hundreds of Yemeni demonstrators stormed the U.S. embassy in Sanaa on Thursday in protest at a film they consider blasphemous to Islam, and security guards tried to hold them off by firing into the air. The attack followed Tuesday night's storming of the United States Consulate in Benghazi, where the ambassador and three other staff were killed. President Barack Obama said the perpetrators would be tracked down and ordered two destroyers to the Libyan coast, but there were fears protests would spread to other countries in the Muslim world." And since the US will not retaliate against any of these attacks on what is technically US territory except with "strong condemnation", expect many more retaliations against America in the middle east in the days ahead as blowback finally blows up. Also, will the US warships headed to Libya now be redirected to Yemen or the next country that decided to burn down its US mission?

Protests in Yemen, Iran, Tunisia and Gaza now echo anger in Egypt and Libya over film made in US that disrespects Islam.

Protesters angered by an anti-Islam film have stormed the US embassy compound in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, as similar demonstrations have spread to several countries across the Middle East.
The protesters on Thursday removed the embassy's sign on the outer wall and brought down the US flag and burned it, according to witnesses.
A number of diplomatic vehicle were torched as security forces used water cannons and warning shots in a bid to drive them out.
In the Iranian capital, Tehran, up to 500 people protested over the issue chanting "Death to America!" and death to the movie's director, an AFP photographer at the scene said.
The rally, near the Swiss embassy that handles US interests in the absence of US-Iran diplomatic ties, ended peacefully two hours later.
Protect guests
Meanwhile, Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi has condemned the film that has sparked an outcry in his country.
"We Egyptians reject any kind of assault or insult against our prophet. I condemn and oppose all who... insult our prophet," Morsi, on an official visit to Brussels, said in remarks broadcast by Egyptian state television.
"[But] it is our duty to protect our guests and visitors from abroad... I call on everyone to take that into consideration, to not violate Egyptian law... to not assault embassies," he added.
Egyptians have clashed with police outside US embassy in the capital, Cairo, for the third day.
About 30 people have been injured, including more than 10 riot police in the overnight clashes, as the fallout from a film ridiculing Islam's prophet continued to rage on Thursday.
Police have used tear gas to disperse the crowd, as interior ministry said at least 12 people have been arrested.
American flags were also burned in Tunisia, outside the US embassy in the capital, Tunis.
Police fired tear gas at demonstrators who shouted their opposition to the film, and chanted slogans against the US.
A small crowd also burned an American flag in Gaza City where Hamas, the elected government there, has condemned the film.
Despite the Egyptian government's call for calm protesters chanted in the streets and fires burned.
Innocence of Muslims, the film that mocked Muhammad, was allegedly produced in the US by a filmmaker with ties to Coptic Christian groups, and excerpted on YouTube with dubbing in Arabic.
On Wednesday, about 200 demonstrators took part in protests in the Egyptian capital.
They rallied into the night chanting "leave Egypt" but there was however no repeat of the previous day's events when angry crowds climbed the walls of the complex and tore down an American flag, which they replaced briefly with a black, Islamist flag.
YouTube access
Meanwhile, YouTube, the video website owned by Google Inc, has said it will not remove the film clip, but it has blocked access to it in those countries.
The prosecutor-general said on Wednesday that four people were being questioned after Tuesday's events.
Nine Coptic Egyptian-Americans were also put on an airport watch list. They are believed to have contributed to the production of the anti-Islam film that led to the embassy protest.
The man behind the protests told Al Jazeera he just wanted to combat insults against Islam through legal and peaceful means. Wesam Abdel Wareth, the protest organiser, said his group was not happy that young people who joined their protest brought down the US flag.
He also said there was no co-ordination with protesters in Libya, and he condemned the violence there.
On Tuesday, Egypt's prestigious Al-Azhar mosque condemned a symbolic "trial" of the Prophet organised by a US group, including Terry Jones, a Christian pastor who triggered riots in Afghanistan in 2010 by threatening to burn the Quran.
But it was not immediately clear whether the event sponsored by Jones also prompted the embassy events.
Obama callsMeanwhile, US President Barack Obama has called the leaders of Egypt and Libya to discuss security co-operation following the violence in Cairo and Benghazi, the White House has said.
Obama urged Egypt to uphold its commitments to defend US diplomatic facilities and personnel and called on Libya to work with US authorities to bring those behind the deadly attack on the US consulate to justice.
Morsi promised Egypt "would honour its obligation to ensure the safety of American personnel", the White House said.

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials say the Pentagon is moving two warships to the Libyan coast, in the aftermath of the attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three others.
Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed when an armed mob stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi Tuesday and set it ablaze.
Officials say one destroyer, the USS Laboon, moved to a position off the coast Wednesday, and the USS McFaul is en route and should be stationed off the coast within days. The officials say the ships, which carry Tomahawk missiles, do not have a specific mission. But they give commanders flexibility to respond to any mission ordered by the president.
U.S. investigators are looking into whether the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya was a coordinated terrorist assault to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and not just spontaneous mob violence triggered by an anti-Islam video on YouTube.
The speaker of Libya's Parliament says the attackers "may have had foreign loyalties" - an apparent reference to international terrorists.
President Barack Obama says the U.S. will work with the Libyan government to find those responsible and vows: "Justice will be done."
The U.S. Embassy says its consulate in Berlin has been evacuated as a precaution after an employee reported a strange smell from an envelope.
Spokeswoman Ruth Bennett said the smell came from an envelope containing supporting materials for a visa application given to consular employees by the applicant in person Thursday morning. There were no reports of injuries and American and German authorities are now examining the contents of the applicant. Bennett says she has no immediate information on the status of the person who brought the envelope in.The U.S. Embassy is located in downtown but the consulate is in the southern Zehlendorf area.

An amateur film mocking Prophet Muhammad spurs attacks on US diplomatic missions in Benghazi and Cairo.

An obscure film entitled Innocence of Muslims has sparked riots at US diplomatic posts in Egypt and Libya.
The amateur, two-hour-long film, which cast dozens of actors, was produced in California in 2011 by Sam Bacile, a 52-year-old Israeli-American real-estate developer who lives in the US.
About $5m was raised to produce Innocence of Muslims, according to the AP news agency. Bacile, whom the Wall Street Journal quoted describing Islam as "a cancer", said he raised the money from about 100 Jewish donors.
The film portrays Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as a fraud and a womaniser, and depicts him having sex. The entire film has only been shown once in public, at a theatre in Hollywood, says Bacile.
Bacile explained he made the film because “after 9/11 everybody should be in front of the judge”, the Associated Press news agency reported. "Even Jesus, even Muhammad."
In Egypt and Libya, public anger at the video spilled over on Tuesday, leading to the death of the US ambassador in Benghazi, Libya and the evacuation of embassy workers in Cairo.
Bacile is now reportedly in hiding.
Spread on social media
How did an obscure film come to have international ramifications?
A trailer of the film was first posted on YouTube by a user called "sam bacile" in July 2012, and has received about 11,000 views to date.
The trailer began to get much more attention in September. On September 4, the same user posted a version dubbed in Arabic, which has garnered more than 70,000 views.
Morris Sadek, a Coptic Christian born in Egypt but who lives in the US, told AP he had been promoting the film on his website. He also tweeted a link to the trailer on September 9.
Sadek, the head of the National American Coptic Assembly, is known for his vehemently anti-Islam views, and told the Wall Street Journal that “the violence that it [the film] caused in Egypt is further evidence of how violent the religion and people are”.
Terry Jones, the Florida pastor whose burning of Qurans in 2011 spurred riots across the Muslim world leading to several deaths, also reportedly promoted the film.
The Arabic version of the trailer received heavy media coverage in Egypt last week, including by controversial TV host Sheikh Khaled Abdallah, who reported on the film on September 8.
A clip of the show was posted to YouTube on September 9, where it has received almost 400,000 views so far.
YouTube clip blocked
The Afghan government on Wednesday temporarily blocked YouTube in an effort to discourage people from watching the clip. YouTube also blocked the video in Egypt, agency reports said.
and consider how the attack is being spun as our old friend Al Qaeda attacking once again ( bad Al Qaeda , not Libyan or Syrian Al Qaeda that we armed and trained and fought beside in Libya / arm once again and train in Syria with Special Forces from GCC nations and naturally Nato working in the shadows )

US Ambassador Chris Stevens vehicle on fire
The US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three staff members at the US consulate in Benghazi were deliberately murdered Tuesday night Sept 11 just after memorial ceremonies were held in America for the victims of the 9/11 outrage. DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report exclusively that far from being a spontaneous raid by angry Islamists, it was a professionally executed terrorist operation by a professional Al Qaeda assassination team, whose 20 members acted under the orders of their leader Ayman al Zawahri after special training. They were all Libyans, freed last year from prisons where they were serving sentences for terrorism passed during the late Muammar Qaddafi’s rule.
In a video tape released a few hours before the attack, Zawahri called on the faithful to take revenge on the United States for liquidating one of the organization’s top operatives, Libyan-born Abu Yahya al-Libi in June by a US drone in northwestern Pakistan.
Its release was the “go” signal for the hit team to attack the US diplomats in Benghazi. To mask their mission, they stormed the consulate on the back of a violent protest by hundreds of Islamists against a film said to insult Prophet Muhammed produced by a Florida real estate agent called Sam Bacile, who has been described as of Israeli origin.
The operation is rated by terror experts as the most ambitious outrage al Qaeda has pulled off in the last decade. According to our sources, the gunmen split into two groups of 10 each and struck in two stages:
1. They first fired rockets at the consulate building on the assumption that the ambassador’s bodyguards would grab him, race him out of the building and drive him to a safe place under the protection of the US secret service;
2. The second group was able to identify the getaway vehicle and the ambassador’s armed escort and lay in wait to ambush them. The gunmen then closed in and killed the ambassador and his bodyguards at point blank range. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources report that the investigation launched by US counter-terror and clandestine services is focusing on finding out why no clue was picked up of the coming attack by any intelligence body and how al Qaeda’s preparations for the attack which took place inside Libya went unnoticed by any surveillance authority.
or did non existent Gaddafi loyalists dod the deed ???? Lol Yeah , right......

Consulate Attack: NATO Stooge Ludicrously Points Finger at Gaddafi Loyalists
Lame Attempt To Shift Blame Away From U.S.-Backed Extremists
Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com Wednesday, September 12, 2012
While the establishment media has engaged in a concerted effort to bury the fact that today’s attack on a U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was carried out by the same extremists the U.S. armed during the overthrow of Colonel Gaddafi, Libya’s Ambassador to Washington Ali Aujali launched his own lame attempt to shift the blame, ludicrously pointing the finger at Gaddafi loyalists.
![]()
“We know that Qaddafi’s associates are in Libya. Of course, they took this chance to infiltrate among the people,” Aujali said in today in an interview.
“His claim contradicts most reports, which place the blame on radical Islamist groups that claimed to be reacting to an obscure American film they viewed as insulting to Islam. Aujali said that the Libyan government has intelligence that unspecified Qaddafi forces were involved,” reports Foreign Policy.
For Aujiali to claim that the attack, which took place in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi, was the work of Gaddafi loyalists, is a plainly absurd trick to manipulate the narrative behind the incident in a desperate bid to save face.
As Tony Cartalucci points out, the media’s failure to admit that the terrorists behind the attack are the same gangs of thugs armed and empowered by NATO represents “an attempt by the West to reestablish the perception that the US and Israel are at war with sectarian extremists, not partnered with them.”
Every indication points to the fact that the attack was carried out by Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists whom NATO supported during last year’s bombardment of Libya, the same bands of Salafists who have destroyed mosques and shrines across Libya and whose goal is to impose sharia law.
|
While absolutely zero evidence suggests that Gaddafi loyalists, huge numbers of which were rounded up, tortured and executed by Libyan rebels, have anything to do with today’s events, every single fact confirms that the same thugs NATO supported in Libya were behind the assault.
The establishment’s desire to obscure the fact that western-backed terrorists are to blame for the violence is a transparent ploy to disguise the fact that NATO powers are brazenly arming and supporting radical extremist Muslims all over the Middle East and North Africa.
The goal is simple – to topple the last few remaining sovereign countries who have refused to allow their resources to be carved up and doled out between different corporate branches of the the military-industrial complex – while promulgating the myth that such aggressive acts of regime change represent an organic “Arab Spring,” when nothing could be further from the truth.
Did the US Ambassador die from smoke inhalation , was he lynched after being tortured , did he die in a rocket attack - don't hold your breath for the truth from the MSM.....here's what we know , we have created a mess in Libya ( like we did in Iraq and Afghanistan ) , which we will replicate in Syria and perhaps Iran..... and all of the spin / speculation , lies and bs can't change that......

Was U.S. Ambassador Lynched?
Attack on U.S. Consulate illustrates disastrous outcome of Obama’s “humanitarian” intervention in Libya

Despite initial reports suggesting he died in a rocket attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, photos appear to indicate that U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was killed by a lynch mob, illustrating the disastrous consequences of the Obama administration’s military intervention in Libya – arming some of the very same men who carried out today’s attack.

“The US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, has been killed in a rocket attack in the eastern city of Benghazi along with three other embassy staff, the White House confirmed on Wednesday,” reports France 24.
However, images released in the hours after the attack show Stevens’ body being paraded around by a mob. The body appears to show signs of torture.
Subsequent reports speculated that Stevens’ car was attacked as he and the three other personnel attempted to escape from the Consulate. The other embassy staff were shot while Stevens’ died of “suffocation,” suggesting he was lynched and physically attacked by the mob.
The incident is being portrayed by the establishment media as a reaction to a film produced in the United States that purportedly ridicules Islam’s Prophet Mohammed.
However, the wider issue of how the 2011 bombardment of Libya paved the way for gangs of militant Islamic extremists, once backed by NATO powers with heavy weapons, to fill the power vacuum left by Colonel Gaddafi, has been largely ignored.
Indeed, it’s a horrific irony that Hillary Clinton’s infamous gloating about Gaddafi’s execution - “We came, we saw, he died” - has now come full circle, with Stevens paying for such despicable arrogance with his life.
After NATO-backed insurgents with links to Al-Qaeda helped topple Colonel Gaddafi in Libya, they proudly flew the distinctive black Al-Qaeda flag over courthouses in Benghazi and other centers of power. That same flag flew over the Consulate today after the U.S. flag was torn down and burned.
In the aftermath of last year’s “no fly zone,” which turned into an incessant bombardment almost overnight, Libya, once one of the richest countries in Africa, is now run by brutal armed gangs who have rounded up black people in huge numbers, subjecting them to torture, incarceration in concentration camps and execution.

A February 2012 report by Amnesty International found that Libya’s militias are “largely out of control” and that “Thousands of detainees are being held in various prisons across the country” and are being “tortured to death.” The country’s NATO-installed rulers have proven themselves unwilling to prevent widespread abuse.
Libya’s oil resources have been carved up between NATO-aligned corporations while the country’s financial enslavement to global bankers is ensured with a fresh IMF loan and the end of their state-owned central banking system.
Despite the fact that Libya is in a state of hellish sectarian warfare and societal collapse, with armed thugs hostile to the west now in control of major power centers, the White House is intent on repeating the same disaster in Syria, funneling arms to rebels, the majority of whom aren’t even Syrian, who are being led by Al-Qaeda terrorists.
Indeed, some of the very same militants responsible for the Libya debacle were airlifted into Syria with the aid of NATO powers as part of the effort to topple Bashar Al-Assad.
The assault on Libya was carried out with absolutely zero constitutional authorization.
In June last year, President Obama arrogantly expressed his hostility to the rule of law when he dismissed the need to get congressional authorization to commit the United States to a military intervention in Libya, churlishly dismissing criticism and remarking, “I don’t even have to get to the Constitutional question.”
Obama tried to legitimize his failure to obtain Congressional approval for military involvement by sending a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner in which he said the military assault was “authorized by the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council.”
Today’s attack on the U.S. Consulate serves as another reminder that the military-industrial complex’s new paradigm of “humanitarian intervention” – a scam they hope to repeat in Syria – has nothing to do with humanitarianism in that it only results in more bloodshed and more instability.
