Britain's ambassador to Libya was in a convoy of cars attacked in the eastern city of Benghazi, a British embassy spokeswoman has said.
The convoy was hit about 300m from the British consulate office in the city's al-Rabha neighbourhood on Monday.
"A convoy carrying the British ambassador to Libya was involved in a serious incident in Benghazi this afternoon," the spokeswoman said.
"Two close protection officers were injured in the attack but all other staff are safe and uninjured."
She said the injured officers were receiving medical treatment.
The diplomatic convoy was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, local security officials said earlier on Monday.
The embassy spokeswoman earlier said that all staff were accounted for following the attack. "We are liaising closely with the Libyan authorities," she said.
Leaflets found
Unis Sharif, Libya's deputy interior minister, said the vehicle was carrying security personnel in a convoy for the head of the British diplomatic mission in Benghazi.
Al Jazeera's Omar al-Saleh, reporting from Tripoli, said that security sources in Benghazi had confirmed the attack, saying it had occurred shortly after the convoy left a restaurant not far from the British consulate.

"Police at the scene said they have found leaflets from a group that calls itself the Brigades of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman," he said.
Abdel-Rahman is an Egyptian national who is currently serving a life sentence in the US.
A Reuters news agency reporter at the scene in Benghazi said police had cordoned off the area. A damaged but still intact car windscreen could be seen lying on the ground.
Security experts blamed an armed group for allegedly attacking the convoy with a rocket-propelled grenade.
According to the experts, the area around Benghazi is home to a number of groups who oppose any Western presence in Muslim countries.
Five days ago, an explosive device was dropped from a passing car outside the offices of the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi. The blast that followed slightly damaged the gate in front of the building.
On May 22, a rocket-propelled grenade hit the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the city, blasting a small hole in the building but causing no casualties.
Benghazi was the cradle of the uprising last year, which ended Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year rule. Since then, it has become a hot-spot for violence. Arms remain readily available and state security forces are struggling to assert their authority.
The violence comes as Libya prepares to elect a general national congress, with the vote set for July 7.

Zintan holds tight to 'prize' Saif al-Islam
Libyan fighters refuse to hand over Gaddafi's captive son, saying his secrets are too important to risk.
Last Modified: 11 Jun 2012 07:33
Fighters in the western mountain town of Zintan have refused to give up Saif al-Islam, the most prominent son of slain ruler Muammar Gaddafi, saying his secrets are too important to risk.
On Friday, Zintanis detained an International Criminal Court lawyer and an interpreter visiting Saif al-Islam for allegedly trying to deliver letters to him. They say the letters, which she hid in her clothing, posed a danger to Libya's national security.
Zintan's leaders say their people sacrificed many lives for the revolution that ended Gaddafi's rule, and that Saif al-Islam has information that could implicate Libya's interim leaders and foreign countries in wrong doing.

Zintan: Arrested ICC lawyers “moved to jail”

Tripoli, 11 June
The four man ICC legal team detained in Zintan on a visit to Saif Qaddafi has been transferred from house arrest to a prison in the town and will be held for 45 days while investigations into their conduct continue, according to the militia chief who detained them.
The BBC today reported that Zintan Brigade commander, Ajami al-Atiri had told them that Melinda Taylor, an Australian citizen, and her three companions from the International Criminal Court in the Hague, have been moved to a regular jail from the guest house where they had been held since their arrest last Thursday.

The other three members of Taylor’s team have been named by the ICC as Helene Assaf, an ICC translator and interpreter since 2005, Esteban Peralta Losilla, the chief of the Counsel Support Section at the ICC and Alexander Khodakov, a Russian career diplomat, who is the external relations and cooperation senior adviser at the registry of the ICC.
ICC president, Sang-Hyun Song, has insisted the lawyers be released immediately and pointed out that since they were travelling on ICC business, they had immunity from arrest.
Atiri told the BBC that the transfer to a jail had been made on orders from the Attorney General’s office and the Defence Ministry in Tripoli. This sits oddly with an earlier statement from the brigade commander, that even after several ‘phone calls from NTC chairman Mustafa Abdul Jalil, he had refused to release the lawyers.
This latest development comes as an ICC team arrives in Tripoli along with Australian ambassador to Libya, David Ritchie, who is based in Rome. It was reported that the ICC party was hoping to travel to Zintan today to talk to their detained colleagues.
The 38 year-old Taylor has been appointed by the ICC to assist Saif Qaddafi’s defence, as and when he is extradited to the Hague to face war crimes charges. Libya continues to insist that Qaddafi should be tried here.
Taylor is accused of seeking to exchange documents with Qaddafi which were “a danger to the Libyan state”. According to Atiri, angry citizens have been demonstrating in Zintan demanding that the ICC four be prosecuted.
