The Iran and Syria " two for the trouble of pre-staging one " crisis move ahead as seemingly planned. As Greece stumbles along to a default of some form or another in March , War drums beat louder - timeframe unclear presently. First a look at Syria .....another humanitarian protection UN resolution coming soon , despite the strong opposition of Russia and what about China ?
Arab League's peace mission to Syria on the verge of collapseThe Arab League's peace mission to Syria was on the verge of collapse on Tuesday night after Gulf states followed Saudi Arabia in pulling out and the country itself refused to say whether it would permit observers to stay.* * * * *
Its decision, which reduces the size of the mission by a third, furthers the growing international divide between Western-supporting states and a loose anti-western coalition involving Iran, Syria's closest ally, Russia, Lebanon, Algeria and Iraq, who have opposed action against Damascus.William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, urged the League to ask the United Nations security council to pass an "appropriate" resolution on Syria, something Russia and China have so far refused to allow.* * * * *Syrian opposition groups, who have argued for the monitoring mission to end, are calling for UN intervention "to protect civilians", though it is not clear what that would entail. Nato has so far ruled out a military role of the sort seen in Libya, but the Syrian National Council has endorsed suggestions of a buffer zone for refugees.
Second , the are a virtual fountainhead of news items each day on Iran - Between the Washington Post and NYT, the establishment point of view is beat in the minds of Jane and Joe ( Pinot Carafe not Six pack ? ) Meanwhile across the pond and ironically when one the day its debt passed one trillion for the first time , the UK pipes up with threats of military force against Iran ! Consider this item ...
Britain escalates warning to Iran over Gulf oil lanesBritain escalated its warnings to Iran on Tuesday over its threats to close the oil lanes of the Gulf by declaring that additional naval forces were lined up to defend the Strait of Hormuz.

"No one wants war, but tragically it is looking increasingly possible. It supports terrorism, undermines democracy and is trying to stop the Arab Spring in Syria," Mr Halfon said. "Now we are threatened by an Iranian nuclear bomb which risks the security of the Gulf states, Israel and the whole region. The question must now be asked: are we facing the prospect of a nuclear dictatorship in the Middle East?"Mr Hague replied that the purpose of sanctions was to increase pressure for Iran to agree to a "peaceful settlement". He said: "We have many contingency plans for many contingencies, including ... for sending any further naval forces to that area," he said."But we are not planning to take military action in the Gulf. We call on Iran to return to the negotiations which are at all times available to it." Just interesting to note as the frenzy heats up with Greece , the PIIGS and Europe teetering financial edifice , the rhetoric heats up with Iran and Syria. With the political climate in Europe and in particular Germany preventing the imposition of the eurozone Superstate - long lusted over by the EU trolls , with the inability to politically leverage to infinity the EFSF or ESM , with the IMF futilely trying to find the financial resources to bailout Spain and Italy and no political will for Eurobonds - nothing short of a devastating global shock would allow the final victory sought by the string pullers.....so keep your eyes on how this unfolds while we also watch how things unfold with Greece !
