Reactor4 pool had a crane trouble / Crane
stopped for unknown reason
Posted by Mochizuki on March 26th, 2014 · No Comments
A crane stopped in reactor4 spent fuel pool. The crane is installed on the ceiling of the reactor building.
While Tepco was preparing to transfer the on-premises transportation container, the fault light was turned on and the crane became unable to move.
Tepco states the crane wasn’t lifting the container when it was stopped, and also no abnormality was observed in plant parameter.
The cause hasn’t been identified.
[100m3 overflow] Tritium density in
groundwater spiking up 60m east from the
overflowed tank

Tritium density is rapidly increasing in groundwater taken from the same point.
Since they started sampling from this boring hole on 3/17/2014, Tritium density had been under detectable level for the first 2 days. They measured 140,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium on the 3rd day. It became 7,000,000 Bq/m3 on 3/24/2014, which is already 50 times much.
It proves the overflowed highly contaminated water is already spreading widely underground.
There is another boring hole nearer the overflowed tank, however Tepco has never taken a sample from the hole. The reason is not announced.
[ALPS] Entire system shut down → Reboot →
New leakage → Shut down again

Tepco shut down the multiple nuclide removing system ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System) just after rebooting it again.
On 3/24/2014, Tepco rebooted 2 of the 3 systems in ALPS in order to decontaminate the tanks and pipes that they contaminated by sending the un-purified water mistakenly.
However about 6 hours later, Tepco employee found the new leakage from the related facilities and shut down the systems again.
Until they re-rebooted the systems the next day, 8 L of contaminated water leaked. The nuclide density is not announced.
Reactor2 alarm went off on 3/20/2014 /
Radioactive density in air spiked over 2,200
times much
Posted by Mochizuki on March 22nd, 2014 · No Comments
A monitoring alarm of reactor2 went off on 3/20/2014. The alarm is the dust monitoring system. It stopped 2 minutes later, but it indicated the radioactive density of dust jumped up over 2,200 times much.
Another dust monitoring system also indicated the spike of the radioactive density at once.
The systems are to monitor the radioactive density of dust in the exhausted air from reactor2 building. At the moment of 3/20/2014, Tepco had not identified the cause.

The contamination is possibly penetrating to groundwater already, according to Tepco.
One month after the overflowing accident, 120,000 Bq/m3 of all β nuclide to include Strontium-90 was detected from groundwater. The sample was taken in 60m east of the overflowed tank. The sampling depth was 10m.
Tepco admitted the overflowed contaminated water is already absorbed by the ground. They also measured 140,000 Bq/m3 of Tritium from the same sample.
Contaminated water storage already 91% full /
Could be overflowing by this coming June

From Tepco’s own data, their contaminated water storage is already 91% full. The report was published on 3/19/2014.
At the moment of 3/18/2014, the total volume of the contaminated water is 443,407 m3, where the total capacity is 485,900 m3 (91% full).
Though the storage volume doesn’t increase linearly, the total contaminated water increased 5,004 m3 since last week. If it keeps increasing in this this trend and Tepco cannot build more storage facility, the storage would start overflowing by this coming June.
Tepco states they are trying their best to build more tanks not to be caught up with by rapidly increasing contaminated water.
Tepco rejects to test chloride concentration of
groundwater / “To conceal seawater comes up
to Fukushima plant ?”

Following up this article.. Groundwater in deep layer possibly traveling between sea and land / Tepco not to investigate it anymore [URL]
On 3/19/2014, Tepco clearly rejected to investigate the possibility that contaminated groundwater and seawater are seamlessly moving underground of Fukushima plant.
From Tepco’s data, groundwater level is synced with ebb and flow in deep boring holes. However they abandoned them and decided to use only shallow boring holes, which don’t show the groundwater level trend.
In the press conference of 3/19/2014, a freelance journalist injured what the reason is not to test chloride concentration of groundwater. Only if they measure the chloride concentration, they can prove if seawater is coming to the underground of Fukushima plant.
Tepco’s spokesman stated they will not test chloride concentration, and the reason wasn’t announced.
[Leakage of reactor3 coolant water] Tepco
“Can’t touch anything due to the high level of
radiation”

Following up this article.. Reactor3 coolant water leakage → Tepco “Don’t know the latest status” [URL]
Tepco can’t do anything for the coolant water leakage in Reactor3, Tepco announced in the press conference of 3/19/2014.
Back in January, Tepco was stating they would install a camera in the potentially leaking point by this February or March, however they haven’t even started the installation.
Tepco can be suspected that they showed the baseless plan just to calm down the public opinion.
Because the radiation dose is extremely high, Tepco planned to go to the upstairs, make a hole on the floor to hung a surveillance camera above the potentially leaking point.
The revised plan hasn’t been published either. Approx. 27% of coolant water is still cluelessly leaking to the irrelevant place.
