Libertarian activist Adam Kokesh was arrested in July for uploading a video of himself loading a shotgun in D.C.’s Freedom Plaza.

D.C. gun laws are some of the strictest in the U.S. As reported by ABC News, “The District has a litany of laws on the books that make it more difficult to obtain some firearms, impossible to obtain others, and illegal to carry any loaded gun in the city.” Just being in D.C. with a loaded firearm, even if it is legally registered, is a violation of the law. D.C. laws also ban gun owners from carrying firearms openly or concealed in public.
On July 9, not even a week after producing and uploading his video, Kokesh’s home was raided by a SWAT team. He spent over 120 days in jail with no bond, no bail, and no trial. 57 of those days were spent in solitary confinement.
On Wednesday, Kokesh pled guilty to to carrying a rifle or shotgun, possession of an unregistered firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He also pled guilty to possession of marijuana in Washington, DC. He will now be released from jail while he awaits his sentencing on January 17.
Just two weeks ago, Kokesh pled not guilty to the charges, claiming he was merely exercising his constitutional rights.  However, on October 23, Kokesh’s attorney Peter Cooper randomly quit his case. After the court appointed the activist a new attorney, he decided to plead guilty.
At this time, it is unknown why Cooper suddenly quit the case. Kokesh’s manager, Jeffrey Phillips, said, “Cooper is a buddy of Adam and represents him whenever he gets in D.C. trouble. There’s no reason for him to just leave other than [the feds] got to him. He was scared away by the government basically. The court appointed Adam a new lawyer who has no idea what he is getting himself into. They obviously do not want him to have a good lawyer, and we had a good lawyer.”
While Kokesh awaits his January sentencing, he is not allowed in the District of Columbia and must report to supervising authorities once per week. He is also not allowed to own any firearms.
Kokesh could spend over six years in prison, but his friends and family maintain that he is not a danger to society.
His girlfriend Carey Wedler said, “While everyone may not agree with Adam’s way of doing things, he is and has always been very peaceful. He has never been a dangerous person.”
We will keep you up-to-date on Kokesh’s situation as news breaks. See our piece from last week with exclusive interviews here.

TSA Sought Firing Range for Firearms Training Two Weeks Before LAX Shooting

Agency now has the resources to potentially arm airport screeners

Two weeks prior to the LAX airport shooting on Friday, the Transportation Security Administration was searching for a firing range to conduct ongoing “firearms training” using an estimated half-million rounds of ammunition annually.
Federal agents conduct firearms training at a range in Georgia.
Federal agents conduct firearms training at a range in Georgia.
On Oct. 18, the TSA posted a solicitation on the FedBizOpps web site seeking “a firearms range to conduct mandatory quarterly qualifications and other firearms training” near Seattle, Washington.
“The range must be able to accommodate the following: 9mm, .40, .357 caliber, 12 gauge and 556 frangible ammunition,” the request states.
The solicitation also estimated that 500,000 rounds will be fired by TSA personnel at the range per year.
This isn’t the first time the TSA requested a firing range.
Back in July, the agency sought a firing range“within a 20 mile radius” of LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The solicitation for this range also estimated that nearly a half-million rounds will be shot annually in the range during training.
The TSA already arms federal air marshals as well as “armed security officers” employed or contracted by the agency who meet “qualifications established by TSA, in coordination with the Federal Air Marshal Service.”
Yet these solicitations and the Department of Homeland Security’s stockpile of two billion rounds of ammunition suggest that these firing ranges will be used to provide firearms training to TSA workers who are not yet armed.
“The sad truth is that our TSA officers are subject to daily verbal assaults and far too frequent physical attacks,” Jeffrey David Cox Sr., president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said to the L.A. Times. “We feel a larger and more consistent armed presence in screening areas would be a positive step.”
If the TSA is moving to arm its airport screeners, the agency already has the training facilities and ammunition to do so.

Sad......

Cops Tase Father Trying To Save His 3-Year-Old Son From House Fire

“It’s just heartless. How could they be so heartless?”

A Louisiana, Missouri father was prevented from saving his 3-year-old son from a house fire when cops tased him three times for attempting to enter the burning building.
The fire started in a ground floor play room while the parents were asleep in the living room. The toddler was asleep upstairs in his bedroom.
After waking up to the smell of fumes, the parents managed to get outside before calling 911. Stepfather Ryan Miller then kicked down the front door to the building as police and firefighters arrived.
The house was too hot for firefighters to enter, but when Miller attempted to rush in to try and save his stepson, he was restrained and then tased three times by a city police officer.
“He tried to get back in the house to get the baby,” grandmother Lori Miller told KHQA. “They took my son to jail because he tried to save his son.”
3-year-old Riley Miller was later found dead near the doorway to his bedroom and the house was completely destroyed.
“It’s just heartless. How could they be so heartless?” said sister-in-law Emily Miller. “And while they all just stood around and waited for the fire department, what kind of police officer wouldn’t try and save a three year old burning in a house?”
This is perhaps the most egregious example to date of police officers engaging in the kind of behavior that defies any rational explanation.
From unnecessarily shooting people’s dogs, to violently invading people’s homes for no reason, to sending SWAT teams to deal with minor domestic disputes, cops are rapidly being turned into a predatory force that serves little other function than terrorizing the public.
The sheer scale of police brutality on every level is now so chronic that many people now suggest not calling the police in the event of a crime because in many cases they make the situation immeasurably worse, often with violent consequences.
When a public is so afraid of the police that they would rather be a silent victim of crime than run the risk of coming off on the wrong side of law enforcement, that society is turning tyrannical.
Responsible police officers who honor the constitution and actually seek to be public servants in the line of duty need to condemn police brutality at every opportunity because they are being tarred with the same brush and it’s creating a climate of fear and distrust – a toxic cocktail that rarely goes unchecked without acting as a wrecking ball to liberty and free societies.
For those interested in helping the family affected by this horrific incident, monetary donations may be sent to the Mercantile Bank in Louisiana, c/o Ryan Miller or the Riley Miller fund.

And more......
