In another indication of how the TSA is expanding its turf way beyond airport security, the federal agency is about to roll out high-tech vehicles that will utilize secret technology to conduct “covert surveillance operations” in cities around the country.

According to a synopsis posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website (PDF), the TSA is set to purchase technology to retrofit three vans in Arlington, VA, Chicago, IL, and San Francisco, CA in order to convert them into surveillance vehicles that will “conduct covert surveillance operations in the course of investigations.”
Precisely where such covert surveillance will take place is not mentioned, although in 2010 it was revealed that US government agencies were already using roving street surveillance vans that deployed backscatter x-ray vision technology to inspect other vehicles.
In 2011, the Electronic Privacy Information Center also revealed plans for the Department of Homeland Security and the TSA to roll out mobile surveillance vans that had long-distance X-ray capability and eye movement tracking.
TSA Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams are responsible for around 10,000 checkpoints every year in the US, and have expanded from airports to bus & train terminals and even highways despite the fact that there is “no proof that the roving viper teams have foiled any terrorist plots or thwarted any major threat to public safety,” according to the L.A. Times.
The total cost of outfitting just three vans with the covert surveillance technology will be a jaw-dropping $160,000 dollars.
Despite their tax dollars paying for such equipment, American citizens are not privy to any detailed information on what this surveillance system will actually entail.

The TSA vehicles will be fitted with Crime Point IP Network Surveillance technology. When attempting to access details of the technology via the Crime Point website, the user is met with the message, “Due to its sensitive nature, the product content on this website is restricted to law enforcement professionals and government agencies only,” and a password is required to go any further.
Although the general public is barred from scrutinizing specific details, the company says that it provides “covert outdoor video systems” that “incorporate the latest emerging technologies.”
Crime Point provides surveillance vans of its own but, like details of the surveillance systems, that information is also restricted.
The legality of the TSA conducting “covert surveillance” of Americans, whether it be at transport hubs or on highways, conflicts with the Fourth Amendment, which protects the “right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.”

Legitimate concerns about ELF, extremely low frequency, will be inextricably linked to alleged Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis following an FBI statement released on Wednesday.
“Ultra-low frequency attack is what I’ve been subject to for the last 3 months, and to be perfectly honest that is what has driven me to this,” the FBI claims Alexis said in an electronic document.
In addition to this message, the words “My ELF Weapon!” and “End to the Torment!” were allegedly carved by Alexis into the Remington 870 shotgun used to kill 12 people in Washington, D.C., on September 16, 2013.
A month prior to the deadly rampage, Alexis told Rhode Island police people were talking to him through the walls and ceilings of his hotel room and depriving him of sleep with microwave vibrations.
“We have found relevant communications on his electronic media which referenced the delusional belief that he was being controlled or influenced by extremely low-frequency electromagnetic waves for the past three months,” Valerie Parlave, the FBI assistant director in charge of the Washington field office, told the media yesterday.
Nick Begich, a researcher on ELF and HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program), and others have documented the dangers of ELF and its use by the U.S. military.
“The United States military has taken advantage of the basic research which demonstrates the effects of various types of electromagnetic radiation. This research is being used for weapons development. These new technologies have been, in part, transferred to the United States Justice Department for use in domestic police actions,” Begich writes.
Moreover, the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration have warned about the health effects of electromagnetic radiation emitted from a variety of sources, including cell phones, video terminals, microwave ovens, and other electronic devices. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has addressed problems associated with ELF, specifically electromagnetic, non-ionizing radiation produced by power lines, electrical wiring, and electrical equipment.
The FBI’s characterization of Alexis as a paranoid schizophrenic who went on a murder rampage due to what he believed were the effects of ELF will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the growing movement against so-called Smart Meters, electronic devices that record utility consumption. Opposition to smart meter technology has increased over the widespread implementation of the devices and risks associated with their use, including fire and invasion of privacy and other security concerns.
Health issues associated with the use of Smart Meters include sleep problems, headaches, stress, anxiety, irritability fatigue, disorientation and other problems.
“Top health issues since the wireless meters were installed on or near the home (318 people) included sleep problems (49%), stress (43%), headaches (40%), ringing in the ears (38%) and heart problems (26%),” the EMF Safety Network reports.

“Secret” 3G Intel Chip Gives Snoops Backdoor PC Access

vPro processors allow remote access even when computer is turned off

Intel Core vPro processors contain a “secret” 3G chip that allows remote disabling and backdoor access to any computer even when it is turned off.

Although the technology has actually been around for a while, the attendant privacy concerns are only just being aired. The “secret” 3G chip that Intel added to its processors in 2011 caused little consternation until the NSA spying issue exploded earlier this year as a result of Edward Snowden’s revelations.
In a promotional video for the technology, Intel brags that the chips actually offer enhanced security because they don’t require computers to be “powered on” and allow problems to be fixed remotely. The promo also highlights the ability for an administrator to shut down PCs remotely “even if the PC is not connected to the network,” as well as the ability to bypass hard drive encryption.
“Intel actually embedded the 3G radio chip in order to enable its Anti Theft 3.0 technology. And since that technology is found on every Core i3/i5/i7 CPU after Sandy Bridge, that means a lot of CPUs, not just new vPro, might have a secret 3G connection nobody knew about until now,”reports Softpedia.
Jeff Marek, director of business client engineering for Intel, acknowledged that the company’s Sandy Bridge” microprocessor, which was released in 2011, had “the ability to remotely kill and restore a lost or stolen PC via 3G.”
“Core vPro processors contain a second physical processor embedded within the main processor which has it’s own operating system embedded on the chip itself,” writes Jim Stone. “As long as the power supply is available and in working condition, it can be woken up by the Core vPro processor, which runs on the system’s phantom power and is able to quietly turn individual hardware components on and access anything on them.”
Although the technology is being promoted as a convenient way for IT experts to troubleshoot PC issues remotely, it also allows hackers or NSA snoops to view the entire contents of somebody’s hard drive, even when the power is off and the computer is not connected to a wi-fi network.
It also allows third parties to remotely disable any computer via the “secret” 3G chip that is built into Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors. Webcams could also be remotely accessed.
“This combination of hardware from Intel enables vPro access ports which operate independently of normal user operations,” reports TG Daily. “These include out-of-band communications (communications that exist outside of the scope of anything the machine might be doing through an OS or hypervisor), monitoring and altering of incoming and outgoing network traffic. In short, it operates covertly and snoops and potentially manipulates data.”
Not only does this represent a privacy nightmare, it also dramatically increases the risk of industrial espionage.
The ability for third parties to have remote 3G access to PCs would also allow unwanted content to be placed on somebody’s hard drive, making it easier for intelligence agencies and corrupt law enforcement bodies to frame people.
“The bottom line? The Core vPro processor is the end of any pretend privacy,” writes Stone. “If you think encryption, Norton, or anything else is going to ensure your privacy, including never hooking up to the web at all, think again. There is now more than just a ghost in the machine.”

World Citizen Asks United Nations to Disarm America: “The World Cannot Stand Idly By”

In his latest article, London Observer writer Henry Porter denigrates American gun owners by calling us insane and requests the assistance of the United Nations to “disarm the irrational rustics.”

Image: Henry Porter.
It’s a sentiment shared by many world citizens, as well as about 52% of Americans who participated in a recent Huffington Post poll.
Outside of the United States, where the idea of self-ownership and the natural right of self-defense is at best a dismal concept, members of the corporatized media are calling for armed intervention to put an end to the Second Amendment.
“But what if we no longer thought of this as just a problem for America and, instead, viewed it as an international humanitarian crisis – a quasi civil war, if you like, that calls for outside intervention?” writes Henry Porter of the London Observer. “As citizens of the world, perhaps we should demand an end to the unimaginable suffering of victims and their families – the maiming and killing of children – just as America does in every new civil conflict around the globe.”
Mr. Porter proudly notes that Britons long ago dispensed with English Common Law – apparently including its precedent, the Magna Carta – and insists that the right to bear arms is an antiquated idea akin to holding slaves.
“Half the country is sane and rational while the other half simply doesn’t grasp the inconsistencies and historic lunacy of its position, which springs from the second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and is derived from English common law and our 1689 Bill of Rights,” he writes. “We dispensed with these rights long ago, but American gun owners cleave to them with the tenacity that previous generations fought to continue slavery.”
Maybe the United Nations can be sent in to disarm the irrational rustics. “This has reached the point where it has ceased to be a domestic issue. The world cannot stand idly by.”
If Mr. Porter had it his way he’d deploy a United Nations force of armed military personnel to the United States for the sole purpose of disarming law abiding Americans.
What Mr. Porter apparently doesn’t understand is that the Second Amendment is the very backstop for people like him, who would violate the natural laws of self preservation and property rights by use of force.
Rather than claiming that we fight for our right to bear arms with the tenacity of slave owners, I like to think we fight for this right with the same tenacity that we fought British imperial rule in the late 1700′s. But Mr. Porter didn’t want to make that analogy, for obvious reasons.
Mr. Porter, I will be the very first American to surrender my weapon to you… from my cold dead heads.
My good friend and Army veteran Ed Thomas who has spent many months in a war zone, and who is also the editor of The Daily Sheeple, has a similar message, and one he recently tattooed on his arm expressly for the purpose of informing people like Mr. Porter and other world citizens who have any skewed ideas about how easy such a gun grab might be:

Come and Take It, Mr. Porter.

Newtown shooting 911 tapes must be released, Connecticut panel says

Julio Cortez / AP
A gunman killed 20 children and six others at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., before shooting himself.
The Newtown Police Department must release 911 tapes from the December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission ruled Wednesday.
Investigators had refused to release the Dec. 14 recordings under a new state law that prohibits the release of certain documents pertinent to an ongoing investigation -- a decision The Associated Press challenged.
According to NBC Connecticut station WVIT, the hearing officer noted the new law, adopted in response to the massacre, does not shield 911 calls.
But the prosecutor leading the investigation argued that certain 911 content could be protected, WVIT reported.
The tapes could reveal valuable information about the law enforcement response to the horrific shooting, in which 26 people, including 20 first-graders, lost their lives.
The gunman, Adam Lanza, killed himself as police arrived. He also had killed his mother before going to the school.
Investigators plan to appeal the decision, WVIT reported, so it's unlikely that the recording will be released anytime soon.
