BOSTON -- New details surfaced late Wednesday night further tying Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to the investigation of a homicide of a Boston man. Hernandez's involvement in the case is significant enough that a source with knowledge of the investigation said that Hernandez's arrest is likely. It is not yet known what he would be charged with.
On Thursday ABC News reported that a security system in Hernandez's home, which included video surveillance, was smashed intentionally and a cell phone was handed over to police "in pieces" by Hernandez's attorneys. A cleaning crew was seen leaving Hernandez's home on Monday before the police searched the residence.
Boston's Fox 25 News, citing an anonymous source, reported on Wednesday night that forensic evidence linked a vehicle driven by Aaron Hernandez at the crime scene. The television station also reported that Hernandez was with the homicide victim, Odin Lloyd, at a Boston bar the night of his death. A jogger found Lloyd's body in an industrial park a mile from Hernandez's North Attleboro, Mass., home on Monday.
The latest incident continues a pattern of Hernandez being associated with guns that began in college. SI.com uncovered two new incidents that Hernandez was associated with involving guns and police. Those incidents are in addition to his inclusion in a civil lawsuit by a man who claims Hernandez shot him and that led to the loss of his eye.
  • SI.com obtained a Providence police report that detailed an incident in which police found a gun disposed under a car after a Jets fan confronted Hernandez at 2:26 a.m. on May 18 on Thayer Street in Providence. The report stated: "Brown Police observed a black male, heavy set wearing a stripped (sic) shirt, discard (sic) a firearm under a vehicle in front of the Karta Bar." Michael E. Correia, a Detective Captain with the Providence Police Department, told SI.com that officers were unable to determine who put the gun under the car and which side of the altercation they were on. "We couldn't determine if the person was with Hernandez or with the person who seemed to be taunting Aaron Hernandez," Correia said.
  • In 2007, Gainesville police interviewed Hernandez about a shooting that took place late after Florida's 20-17 loss to Auburn. Hernandez was not considered a suspect in the case. His mother confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel that Hernandez and a friend from Connecticut were in a nightclub near where the shooting took place.
  • On Tuesday, the story emerged of a Hernandez's alleged involvement in a civil lawsuit. Alexander S. Bradley alleges that Hernandez shot him with a gun Hernandez illegally possessed, leading to Bradley losing the vision in his right eye. The alleged incident occurred on the way home from a strip club. "Hernandez shot him," said Bradley's lawyer David Jaroslawicz in a phone interview with SI.com. "It's either a negligence case or a deliberate shooting. We'll see if Hernandez wants to come in and raise his right hand and tell us what happened."
The current murder investigation is the most serious of the incidents that Hernandez has been involved with. And it doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon as Massachusetts State Police searched in and around his home on Wednesday after what appeared to be a full-scale search warrant execution with 10 police cars on Tuesday.
But the pattern of Hernandez showing up in court filings and on police reports hints at a life lived in the margins and surrounded by questionable people. Hernandez also admitted to NFL teams that he failed numerous drug tests prior to the 2010 NFL Draft. That disclosure combined with multiple NFL personnel sources telling SI.com that some teams had concerns that Hernandez was associated with some people with gang ties, reveals why so many teams passed on Hernandez in that draft. He had emerged as the most dominant tight end in college football that year, but his off-field issues led him to slip all the way to the fourth round.
Hernandez's friends from back home in Connecticut always concerned the coaches at the University of Florida, according to one of Hernandez's former coaches there. The coaching staff worried whenever Hernandez returned home to Connecticut.
"There were always people that were trying to surround themselves with him that weren't in his best interest and they were around him," said the former coach. "For him, it's like anything else. He's a good-hearted kid who had a hard time saying no."
The former coach said that Hernandez called him on Sunday to wish him a happy Father's Day and spoke to the coach's children, as he often does. The coach said that Hernandez has struggled since the sudden death of his father while he was in high school.
"He's a lovable kid," the coach said of Hernandez. "He's always welcome in my house and he's always called my kids and talked to them. He's a great kid, but since his father passed away the maturity part has been a little bit of a struggle."

Aaron Hernandez Suit

  • Aaron Hernandez Suit
JUNE 19--New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, whose home was searched yesterday in connection with a murder investigation, was sued earlier this month for allegedly shooting a friend in the face as they drove away from a Miami strip club, according to federal court records.
In a U.S. District Court complaint filed last Thursday, Alexander Bradley alleges that Hernandez “caused the gun to go off while aiming it” at him inside a vehicle on February 13. Thegunshot resulted in the loss of Bradley’s right eye and other assorted injuries, according to the negligence complaint.
Bradley contends that he and Hernandez, 23, were part of a group that “went to spend the evening at” Tootsie’s, a Miami strip joint. While at the club, the two men “had an argument,” the details of which are not further described in the lawsuit.
It was during a subsequent drive from Miami to Palm Beach that Hernandez’s gun discharged while the football player was “aiming at plaintiff.”
David Jaroslawicz, one of Bradley’s lawyers, said that his client is a friend of Hernandez and has been paid by the athlete to “help him out” with certain matters (along the lines of a personal assistant). Jaroslawicz added that Bradley, a Connecticut resident, was hospitalized for “a couple of weeks” following the shooting.
When Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies interviewed Bradley following the shooting, he did not name Hernandez as his assailant, according to a police report. Bradley, who was found bleeding in an alley behind a John Deere Landscapes store in Riviera Beach, claimed that his attackers were “both Hispanic and black males who shot him.” He then told a deputy that he “did not want to talk anymore because it hurt when he spoke.”
Investigators reported that Bradley was “extremely uncooperative” with emergency medical personnel and “refused to cooperate with the investigation.” The day after the shooting, Bradley “asked that the investigation not go any further.” When a deputy replied that without his help the probe would cease, Bradley replied that he understood. As a result, a detective listed the case as“inactive due to refusal to cooperate by the victim.”
During Bradley’s treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital, a bullet fragment was removed from his body and turned over to cops. Additionally, deputies noted that when they first made contact with Bradley, he was wearing a white club wristband that read “Next Level Club.” According to the “Tootsie’s” web site, the “Next Level Club” is the top-level VIP area inside the nightspot (seen above).
Bradley’s lawsuit, which sought damages in excess of $100,000, was filed June 13. Four days later, Bradley’s attorneys moved to have the complaint voluntarily dismissed. Jaroslawicz said the lawsuit was withdrawn to correct a description of the injuries Bradley suffered in the shooting, and that the complaint would be refiled, perhaps as early as this afternoon.
Hernandez’s Massachusetts home was raided yesterday by detectives probing the killing of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old acquaintance of Hernandez. The body of Lloyd, a semi-pro football player, was found Monday afternoon in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez’s North Attleboro residence. According to reports, a rental car found near the murder scene was linked to Hernandez by investigators. (7 pages)

Investigators were searching the North Attleboro, Mass., home of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez following the killing of a man police call an "associate" of player No. 81, ABC News has learned.
Hernandez's jersey number is 81.
Two Hernandez friends tried to leave house at the time of the search, but they were stopped by a state police car at the end of driveway.
Massachusetts investigators also planned to interview Hernandez in connection with the killing, ABC News has learned.
Hernandez has been uncooperative with police since the body of a 27-year-old man was found in an industrial park not far from the Patriots player's home, two law enforcement sources said.
A rental vehicle with Rhode Island plates was recovered near the scene, which led investigators to Hernandez, sources told ABC News.
Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter confirmed in a media statement that a body was found around 5:30 p.m. Monday in a clearing near John Dietsch Boulevard. Sutter said that based on the "nature and circumstances" of the body that the investigation would be handed over to Massachusetts State Police detectives.
Stacey James, a New England Patriots official, said on behalf of the team, "I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation."
Hernandez is spending the off-season recovering from a shoulder scope.

Reports: Patriots Aaron Hernandez questioned in man’s murder

A platoon of state police detectives are inside and outside the North Attleboro home of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez tonight following multiple reports the star football player is being questioned about a murder at a nearby industrial park. The team declined to comment about the 23-year-old, but Patriots Vice President of Media Relations Stacey James did release the following statement tonight: “I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation.”
The Bristol District Attorney’s Office tells the Herald a witness reported finding a body in an industrial park at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday. The industrial park is located about a half mile away from the sprawling Hernandez home.

Flash photography lit up the home tonight while state police officers searched the road outside the player's home along the road leading up to the industrial park.
SI.com — the website for Sports Illustrated — reports today state police have spoken to Hernandez about the murder of a Boston man. The star tight end is not considered a suspect, multiple reports state.
The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro is also reporting a rented 2013 Chevrolet Suburban could be connected to the killing. Reports state that car may have been rented under Hernandez's name.
State police are now at the player's front door, on his driveway and inside the home.
A spokesman for Hernandez, who wears number 81 for the Patriots, could not immediately be reached for a comment.
Hernandez is recovering from an offseason shoulder scope labeled minor by some reports and attended the recent mini-camp, but did not participate in full drills.
Hernandez signed a five-year $40 million contract extension with the team last year and is considered one of the team’s top offensive weapons.

NORTH ATTLEBORO — State and local police have worked around the clock investigating the possible homicide of a 27-year-old Boston man and are following up leads, a Sun Chronicle source said this morning.
The victim’s body was found around 5:30 p.m. Monday off John Dietsch Boulevard in the town’s industrial park by a jogger and may have been there for over a day, the source said.

The body was found in a clearing between John Dietsch Boulevard and Landry Avenue and it was unclear whether the victim died where he was found or whether his body was dumped there, the source said.
Meanwhile, police have found a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban with Rhode Island license plates in connection with the possible homicide. The vehicle is registered to Enterprise car rental and investigators were hoping to analyze it for fingerprints.
Local police declined comment and referred calls to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
“As the investigation is in its early stages, no further details about this case will be released at this time,” the district attorney’s office said late Monday night.
The probe is being conducted by state police detectives with the district attorney’s office, local police and state police crime scene experts.
The last homicide in North Attleboro was in November 2009 when the body of a suspected drug mule who entered the country from Mexico was found rolled up in a carpet at a housing development under construction off Freeman Street. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The last murder in the Sun Chronicle readership area was July 10, 2011 in Attleboro at a sober house on Dunham Street.
In that case, Matthew Gumkowski of West Warwick, R.I., is accused of strangling and stabbing 50-year-old Joseph Kilrow before setting fire to Kilrow’s third-floor room in an attempt to cover up the crime. Gumkowski was arrested a few days later and is awaiting trial in Fall River Superior Court.
