Texas Brine Disobeys State Declaration – Stops Updates

In a haughty announcement Texas Brine states they will only do updates when they think they should -
“Effective today and going forward, we will only issue updates on those days when there are activities that would be deemed reportable or of possible interest for follow-up.”

But it is OUT OF COMPLIANCE with the (1st Amendment to) the Emergency Declaration:

In Livingston Parish: Company using explosions to explore for oil

Is this smart?
LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) – Homeowners in parts of Livingston Parish are dealing with big bangs and ground shaking tremors.
The activity stems from an oil exploration project going on in the center of the parish.
Residents are hopeful the nuisance will benefit them.
Sandy Taylor is a what you might call a long-lifer. She has been living in Colyell for more than 50 years. She described it as peaceful, quiet. But, lately, she said things have changed.
“They been blasting through here. Sometimes it gets pretty loud,” Taylor said.
Taylor is one of hundreds of Livingston Parish homeowners who got a letter from Pinnacle Leasing letting them know a company called Strand Energy would be testing their properties for minerals. But there was no mention of noise. . . . .  (story + video)

Weekend News

Saturday

The Advocate (follow up article) – Texas Brine fights fines
Lawsuit: State deadlines didn’t give enough time
By David J. Mitchell
Texas Brine Co. LLC is challenging $160,000 in fines that the Louisiana Office of Conservation levied against the company Dec. 17 for failing to meet state-mandated deadlines in its response to an 8.5-acre sinkhole emergency in northern Assumption Parish, company officials confirmed Friday.
But during the Christmas break, the Houston-based company paid another $100,000 in fines issued Dec. 1 by the state office over similar response delays, a spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources said Friday. . . .
article above says the parish has costs of over half a million dollarsso far from the sinkhole (!)
” . . . [Assumption Parish Sheriff] Waguespack said his office had accrued $212,000 in costs through Dec. 16. Boudreaux [director of the parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness]  said the Police Jury had run up nearly $300,000 in costs through Nov. 30.”

Bayou Buzz – Louisiana Governor Jindal, Bayou Corne Sinkhole and Santa
Ever-so-busy Governor Bobby Jindal, where are you?
For months, political watchers in Louisiana have wondered why Governor Jindal has failed to visit or speak out about a peculiar sinkhole in Bayou Corne which has received national attention for a variety of reasons including the evacuation of over 150 families. . . .
  from above:
WHERE ARE YOU BOBBY JINDAL?????
You were elected to be the leader of our State, and in case you forgot, being a leader is an obligation of the office you hold. Need I remind you there is a sinkhole in Bayou Corne/Grand Bayou, which was declared a State of Emergency by your office on August 3rd, where 150 households were forced to evacuate from the area and are living in campers, hotels, rent houses, etc. There are mini earthquakes, methane, benzene and hydrogen sulfide being released into the community. This community has been through hell and back and are still living a nightmare. In my opinion and many others you have completely turned your back on this community, and you have done absolutely nothing helpful to this community. You haven’t even had the decency to come visit the site, do a flyover and meet with residents to show your support and pledge accountability by all parties, Texas Brine and your agencies alike. Your inaction is very upsetting to many people. It is unacceptable and cannot and will not be tolerated. We all understand your aspiration to be president, but what you need to remember is that in the meantime you have a state to run and that is your responsibility, and you have people depending on your leadership. Mr. Jindal, I have asked twice on the news, myself and many others have sent countless emails and letters to your office and to no avail. Seems you are too busy. You simply cannot continue to ignore this disaster and turn your back on a community that is pleading for your help and leadership and you must get personally involved. We await your response, Sir.To ALL my FB friends please copy and paste this to your wall and maybe just maybe it will get Mr. Jindal’s attention and force him to do what is right by the people that elected him to office.
Thanks, John Achee, Jr

The following graphs/charts show that the 7.5 Earthquake that struck Alaska earlier today also dealt a jarring blow to both the Yellowstone Supervolcano as well as to the Louisiana Sinkhole. According to the USGS, the Alaskan quake struck on 2013-01-05 at 08:58:19 UTC. The charts below show proof that the EQ was felt at both the Yellowstone Supervolcano as well as at the Louisiana Sinkhole.

The first chart below shows the Alaska EQ in blue and Yellowstone’s reaction to it in red. Purple shows the overlap. Source
