( Al Jazeera still hasn't covered or been allowed to cover today's bombing of the Saudis Intelligence Building right in Riyadh - but they are covering a sudden call by the Saudis for a Special Islamic  Summit in mid- August - who gets invited - Iraq , Syria and / or Iran on the invite list ! Are the Saudis shaken ( or how badly shaken might be a better way to put it )  by today's event ? Are we getting close to make or break for Syria and Iran - as far as Sunnis are concerned ? )

The Saudi monarch has also called for a campaign to raise funds "in support of our brothers in Syria" [Reuters]
Saudi Arabia has called for an extraordinary summit of Muslim leaders next month to address the risks of "sedition" threatening Muslim countries.
King Abdullah has called for "an extraordinary Islamic solidarity meeting to ensure... unity during this delicate time as the Muslim world faces dangers of fragmentation and sedition," Saudi state news agency quoted Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal as saying.
King Abdullah wishes to convene the summit in mid-August in a bid at "unifying the ranks" of Muslims, the report said.
No further details concerning the agenda of the meeting were presented.
But the announcement comes amid a spike in deadly violence across Syria, where opposition activists say more than 17,000 people have been killed since an uprising erupted in March 2011 against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
Saudi Arabia and the other energy-rich Sunni nations of the Gulf have repeatedly voiced support for Syrian rebels against the Assad government.
In a separate statement, SPA reported that the Saudi monarch has called for launching a campaign to raise funds "in support of our brothers in Syria" starting on Monday.
"The donations will be from all the kingdom's regions" urging all Saudis "to participate in the campaign".

Explosion Rocks S. Arabia's Intelligence Headquarters
TEHRAN (FNA)- Reports from Saudi Arabia said an explosion rocked the Arab country's intelligence headquarters and killed the Saudi deputy intelligence chief.

The Arabic al-Fajr news website reported from Saudi Arabia that the deputy head of Saudi Arabia's secret service has been killed in the blast.

No official report has yet been released on the incident.

On Thursday night Prince Bandar bin Sultan was appointed Saudi Arabia's new spy chief.

Prince Bandar, 63, who vanished from public view when he was recalled from Washington by King Abdullah in 2005 after notching up 22 years as the kingdom's ambassador there, will immediately be thrust into a Middle East crisis.

The US' closest Arab ally is a supporter of the Syrian rebels who want to oust president Bashar al-Assad and is mending fences with Washington after a disagreement over the Arab uprisings.

why might a bombing incident strike the Saudis at this time ? Could be this unverified story / speculation.....

IRGC Rejects Reports on Martyrdom of Quds Force Commander in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps categorically denied the recent media reports claiming that the commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, General Qassem Suleimani, was killed in the Wednesday bombing at Syria's national security headquarters.

According to the IRGC public relations office, Head of the IRGC Public Relations General Ramezan Sharif dismissed the report on Suleimani's death as a mere "propaganda campaign".

"Due to the recent events in Syria and Iran's support for resistance in Palestine, some Arab media in coordination with their western counterparts have waged immoral and hostile propaganda campaign against Iran," Sharif said.

"These media have published many rumors about Iran, among them the claim about General Suleimani's presence in Syria and at the site the recent explosion in Syria's national security building," he noted, adding that the propaganda campaign is aimed at diverting the public opinion and undermining the morale of resistance front against Israel.

The explosion inside the Syrian national security headquarters in Damascus targeted ministers from President Bashar al-Assad's government who were meeting with defense officials on Wednesday, killing four of the most senior members of President Assad's inner circle, including his brother-in-law.

The Syrian Army said Defense Minister and his deputy, Asef Shawkat, were both killed in the explosion. Shawkat, Assad's brother-in-law, also held the title of deputy chief of staff.

According to Syrian TV, former Defense Minister Hassan Turkmani, who headed Assad's 'crisis cell' that coordinated the government's response to the 16-month unrests, was also killed in the blast. Other ministers and military officials were seriously wounded in the explosion, according to state media.

Syrian State TV reported that Interior Minister Mohammed al-Shaar and National Security Department head Major General Hisham Ikhtiar sustained injuries.

Syria's state television on Friday announced the death of security head Hisham Ikhtiar.

Blast hits Egypt gas pipeline
Attack on Egypt-Israel-Jordan pipeline is the 15th attack since the start of the uprising which toppled Hosni Mubarak.
Last Modified: 22 Jul 2012 07:50

A gas pipeline in Egypt's Sinai used to export fuel to Israel and Jordan has been blown up.
It is the 15th such attack since the start of the uprising in early 2011 that toppled President Hosni Mubarak.
The blast occurred in the early hours of Sunday at al-Tuwail, east of the town of El-Arish, at a point before the pipeline splits into separate branches to Israel and Jordan.
Gunmen in a small truck drove up to the pipeline, dug a hole and placed explosive charges under the pipeline that they
detonated from a distance, a security official and witnesses said.
A large boom echoed across the area and residents up to 30km away said they could see flames of burning gas lighting the sky.
Bedouin fighters are believed to be behind the spate of pipeline attacks which have occurred since last year's revolution.
Egypt has been gripped by security problems since the revolt, and the Sinai peninsula is particularly sensitive because of tensions with its heavily armed Bedouin community.
Cairo froze supplies to Israel earlier this year to negotiate a new price.
Several Mubarak-era ministers and businessmen have been tried and imprisoned for selling the gas to Israel at below market rates.

Syrian Rebels Burn, Loot Dozens of Turkish Trucks

The rebel fighters have been getting more and more dangerous and capable

by John Glaser, July 21, 2012

Syrian rebels burned and looted dozens of Turkish trucks transporting goods into Syria, according to the drivers, after they captured another border post from government troops
“We barely escaped when the rebel fighters took full control of the Bab al-Hawa border post in Syria,” Hasan Abbasoglu told AFP as he retrieved his vehicle from Syria after the looting on the highway. His truck hadn’t been burned, but he paid $700 in bribes to get it back.
“I’ve been exporting carpets via the Syrian border crossing for seven years,” he told AFP. “But this time we narrowly escaped with our lives.”
“All of our trucks were burned,” another trader, Ali Cengiz, said. “The rebel fighters destroyed our trucks during the clashes.”
The ransacking of the trucks is the latest news of rebel crimes. On Thursday, rebel groups seized military outposts along the Iraq border and, according to Iraqi witnesses, executed the Syrian troops, detaining the lieutenant colonel and proceeding to cut off his arms and legs.
As rebel gains increased over the past week, concerns have risen again about their disorganized nature. They continue to receive support from the US and its allies, but most of the Syrian population as well as foreign powers are concerned about the potentially Islamists character of any leadership trying to replace Assad.
